Nuclear-factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) cascade activation can ameliorate dexamethasone (DEX)-induced oxidative injury and death in human osteoblasts. Phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1) depletion is shown to efficiently activate Nrf2 signaling by inducing methylglyoxal modification of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1). We here identified a novel PGK1-targeting microRNA: microRNA-4523 (miR-4523).

Article Synopsis
  • Human serum albumin (HSA) is commonly used in clinical settings as a plasma volume expander, but it can leak out into tissues and cause swelling due to increased capillary permeability during critical illnesses.
  • This study explores the idea of PEGylating HSA, which means attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) to the protein to potentially reduce capillary leakage and increase its effectiveness.
  • Results indicate that PEGylated HSA has a significantly longer biological half-life, lower vascular permeability, and improved blood pressure recovery compared to regular HSA, making it a more suitable option for treating related illnesses.
