Layered transition metal oxides (LTMOs) are attractive cathode candidates for rechargeable secondary batteries because of their high theoretical capacity. Unfortunately, LTMOs suffer from severe capacity attenuation, voltage decay, and sluggish kinetics, resulting from irreversible lattice oxygen evolution and unstable cathode-electrolyte interface. Besides, LTMOs accumulate surface residual alkali species, like hydroxides and carbonates, during synthesis, limiting their practical application.

Mn-based layered oxide cathodes have attracted widespread attention due to high capacity and low cost, however, poor air stability, irreversible phase transitions, and slow kinetics inhibit their practical application. Here, we propose a universal interfacial reconstruction strategy based on converting residual alkali to tunnel phase NaMnO for addressing the above mentioned issue simultaneously, using O3 NaNiFeMnO@2 mol % NaMnO (NaNFM@NMO) as the prototype material. The optimized material exhibits an initial capacity and energy density comparable with lithium-ion batteries.

However, NaTMO suffer from multiple phase transitions and Na/vacancy ordering upon Na insertion/extraction, which is detrimental to their electrochemical performance. Herein, we developed a novel cathode material that exhibits an abnormal P2-type structure at a stoichiometric content of Na up to 1.

Herein, a novel hybrid of 0D nickel nanoparticles dispersed on the one-dimensional (1D) molybdenum carbide micropillars embedded in the carbon layers (Ni/MoC@C) was successfully prepared on nickel foam by a facile pyrolysis strategy. During the synthesis process, the nickel nanoparticles and molybdenum carbide were simultaneously generated under H and CH mixed atmospheres and conformally encapsulated in the carbon layers.

The biphasic intergrowth structure of layered cathode materials is essential for improving the sodium storage performance, which is attributed to the synergistic effect between the two phases. However, the in-depth formation mechanism of biphasic intergrowth materials remains unclear.

Herein, an atomically thin soft-rigid Co S @MoS core-shell heterostructure with dual cation vacancies at the atomic interface is constructed as a promising anode for high-performance sodium-ion batteries. The dual cation vacancies involving V and V in the heterostructure and the soft MoS shell afford ionic pathways for rapid charge transfer, as well as the rigid Co S core acting as the dominant active component and resisting structural deformation during charge-discharge.

However, the challenges of complicated irreversible multiphase transitions, poor structural stability, low operating voltage, and an unstable oxygen redox reaction still limit its practical application. Herein, using O3-NaNiMnSnO cathode materials as the research model, a universal strategy based on bridging microstructure engineering and local electronic structure manipulation is proposed.

Background: Natural killer cells play important roles in tumor immune surveillance, and cancer cells must resist this surveillance in order to progress and metastasise.
Introduction: The study aimed to explore the mechanism of how breast cancer cells become resistant to the cytotoxicity of NK cells.
Methods: We established NK-resistant breast cancer cells by exposing MDA-MB-231 cells and MCF-7 cells to NK92 cells.
Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (PC) is the final stage of PC that acquires resistance to androgen deprivation therapies (ADT). Despite progresses in understanding of disease mechanisms, the specific contribution of the metastatic microenvironment to ADT resistance remains largely unknown. The current study identified that the macrophage is the major microenvironmental component of bone-metastatic PC in patients.
