Article Synopsis
  • An innovative workflow using ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) was developed to characterize the polysaccharides from Lyophyllum Decastes (LDP), involving separation, purification, and analysis of the polysaccharides.
  • The study confirmed LDP's structure as a 1-6-linked β-glucan and examined its oligosaccharides through various chromatographic and spectrometric techniques.
  • Results indicated that LDP polysaccharides enhance the expression of key immune components (like IL-1β and TNF-α) and interact with Toll-like receptor (TLR) proteins, highlighting their potential immuno-regulatory effects.

Article Synopsis
  • The Diffusive gradients in thin films technique (DGT) is a better way to measure labile heavy metal concentrations in soil compared to traditional destructive methods, which tend to underestimate the true concentrations.
  • A new measurement index, C, is proposed to give a more accurate representation of heavy metal accumulation in the soil, based on specific water content and deployment time.
  • Initial results show that C has strong correlations with existing measures of heavy metal concentrations, suggesting it may be a more reliable alternative for assessing heavy metals in unsaturated soils.

Two homogenous polysaccharides extracted from Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. were investigated by water extraction (AMP-F) and alkali solution extraction (AMP-F) after purification by anion exchange column and size exclusion chromatography. The molecular weight of AMP-F and AMP-F were 2874 Da and 3438 Da, respectively, estimated by high performance gel permeation chromatography (HPGPC).

Progestin and adipoQ receptor 5 (PAQR5) affects the development of various malignancies and is specifically expressed in kidney. However, the role of PAQR5 in renal carcinoma remains unclear. We assessed the state of PAQR5 expression in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) by The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus datasets.

Purpose: The repeated use of doxorubicin is limited due to dose-limiting cardiac toxicity. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PEG-LD, Duomeisu) has a reduced cardiac toxicity. This phase I study aimed to investigate the maximum tolerated doses (MTDs) and dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) of the PEG-LD and cisplatin combination in patients with metastatic and recurrent osteosarcoma.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how to improve immune checkpoint therapy effectiveness for soft tissue sarcoma (STS), particularly liposarcoma, by exploring combinations with histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors.
  • Whole-exome sequencing and analysis of somatic copy number alterations revealed frequent amplification of class I HDAC genes in patients, suggesting their role in poor prognosis for STS.
  • The combination of the HDAC inhibitor chidamide with PD-1 blockade showed promising results in enhancing T cell activity and reducing tumor growth in mice, indicating potential for better treatments in advanced sarcoma patients.

Flavonol glycosides are important components of tea leaves, contributing to the bioactivities as well as bitterness and astringency of tea. However, the standards of many flavonol triglycosides are still not available, which restricts both sensory and bioactivity studies on flavonol glycosides. In the present study, we established a simultaneous preparation method of seven flavonol triglycoside individuals from tea leaves, which consisted of two steps: polyamide column enrichment and preparative HPLC isolation.

Background: Bursopentin (BP5) is a multifunctional pentapeptide found in the chicken bursa of Fabricius. Recent study indicated that BP5 significantly stimulates expression of p53 protein in colon cancer HCT116 cells. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of BP5 on HCT116 cell proliferation remain largely unclear.

Background: Investigating the roles of lncRNA prostate cancer-associated transcript 6 (PCAT6) in modulating the growth and aggressiveness of non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cell.

Method: The levels of PCAT6 in NSCLC tissues and cell lines were determined by quantitative real-time PCR assay. MTT as well as colony formation assays were applied to explore the effect of PCAT6 on the growth of NSCLC cell in vitro.

Background: Wide resection margins of osseous tumors are associated with a low incidence of local recurrence, making accurate measurement of the intraosseous extent of primary malignant long bone tumors is crucial. We compared the intraosseous tumor extent assessed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the gross specimen to evaluate the accuracy of MRI.

Methods: A total of 255 patients with primary malignant tumors in the long bones were included.

Background: For a child with osteosarcoma, prediction of the limb length discrepancy at maturity is important when planning for limb salvage surgery. The purpose of this study was to provide a reliable prediction method.

Methods: A retrospective review of Chinese children receiving chemotherapy for osteosarcoma before skeletal maturity was conducted.

Background: Resection of sacral chordomas is challenging. The anatomy is complex, and there are often no bony landmarks to guide the resection. Achieving adequate surgical margins is, therefore, difficult, and the recurrence rate is high.

Background: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) most commonly occur around the knee. The most beneficial procedure for this disease has been extensive curettage with reconstruction. However, since many GCTs may compromise the subchondral bone, surgery can further jeopardize the articular cartilage and result in secondary osteoarthritis.

Objective: To evaluate the inhibitory effect of 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) on HT-1080 human fibrosarcoma cells in vitro.

Methods: HT-1080 human fibrosarcoma cells were cultured for 3 days in the proliferation period. Then adriamycin or 5-Fu at different concentrations were used to treat these cells for 24 h, 72 h and 144 h.

This study aimed to analyze the volatile chemical profile of Longjing tea, and further develop a prediction model for aroma quality of Longjing tea based on potent odorants. A total of 21 Longjing samples were analyzed by headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Pearson's linear correlation analysis and partial least square (PLS) regression were applied to investigate the relationship between sensory aroma scores and the volatile compounds.

Using six rice varieties with different phosphorus (P) use efficiency as the materials, the photosynthesis and active-oxygen-scavenging enzyme activities of the rice varieties under different P conditions were studied. Under deficient P condition, the photosynthetic rate (Pn) and soluble protein content (pro) were all gradually decreased with the growth process in the six tested varieties. The Pn and pro were always lower under deficient P condition than those under sufficient P condition.

Pre-eclampsia has been dubbed as 'a disease of primiparity'. However, the effects and mechanisms of the association of primiparity with pre-eclampsia have not been clearly defined. We conducted a systematic review of studies evaluating the effect of primiparity on the risk of pre-eclampsia, and studies (published between January 1966 and July 2005) on the mechanisms underlying such an association.
