Keratin-based hydrogels have shown promise as materials for wastewater remediation, yet their low surface area and poor mechanical performance hindered the practical application. To address these challenges, we developed a bowl-shaped polydopamine-loaded sponge bio-hydrogel (BPSH) with a hierarchical porous structure and high stability. The extruded keratin chains facilitated the formation of three distinct macroporous frameworks, while embedding bowl-shaped polydopamine into the bio-hydrogel significantly enhanced the hierarchical porous structure.

The greenhouse effect of co-utilizing milk vetch and rice straw has not yet been reported. In this study, we investigated net greenhouse gas emissions and related environmental factors over two years based on a long-term experiment.

However, their instability to light and radiation leads to scintillation performance degradation. To address these stability concerns, this paper proposes a new perovskite nanocrystal (NC) synthesis method that employs aminopropyllsobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) as a ligand and a coating layer to passivate the perovskite NCs, significantly enhancing their stability and photoluminescence efficiency.

However, their small size poses significant challenges in terms of preparation, collection, and purification. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), an organic-inorganic nanohybrid with a cage-like structure, has recently attracted considerable attention due to its excellent biocompatibility.

Firstly, 130 patients with LEASO were selected from February 2020 to February 2023 and then randomly divided into two groups with 65 patients each. Excluding the dropouts, 59 patients in the control group (6 cases of dropout) received ALP and 62 patients in the research group (3 cases of dropout) received ALP plus CIL.

Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate the correlation between chemokine (C-X-C) ligand 7 (CXCL7) expression and glycolysis and to explore the prognostic significance of CXCL7 in colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: The expression of CXCL7 and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A) was measured by immunohistochemistry in tissue from 158 CRC patients. Patients were divided into high expression and low expression groups based on receiver operating characteristic curves and a cut-off value.
In southern China, winter green manure is widely used in rice cropping systems for improving grain yields and soil fertility. Cd pollution has recently been reported in some of these paddy fields. Research on the in-depth understanding of how green manuring affects Cd absorption in rice is limited.

Objective: To investigate the correlations between thyroid function, renal function, and depression.
Methods: Clinical data of 67 patients with Major depressive disorder (MDD) and 36 healthy control subjects between 2018 and 2021 were collected to compare thyroid and renal function. Thyroid and renal functions of depressed patients were then correlated with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA).
Fertilizers are widely used to produce more food, inevitably altering the diversity and composition of soil organisms. The role of soil biodiversity in controlling multiple ecosystem services remains unclear, especially after decades of fertilization. Here, we assess the contribution of the soil functionalities of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) cycling to crop production and explore how soil organisms control these functionalities in a 33-year field fertilization experiment.

The mechanisms leading to a prothrombotic state in MPN are complex and remain poorly understood. Platelet mitochondria play a role in platelet activation, but their number and function have not been extensively explored in MPN to date.

This study investigated the effect of EPCR on the onset and development of inflammatory arthritis and its underlying mechanisms.
Methods: CIA was induced in EPCR gene knockout (KO) and matched wild-type (WT) mice.
A gate-voltage-modulated strategy was proposed to improve the detection performance of telomerase. We comprehensively investigated the mechanism for the gate-voltage-modulated detection performance by modulating the electrostatic interaction between charges of a single-stranded DNA probe and electrons of the InO channel. This gate-voltage-modulated interaction between the probe and the channel can potentially serve as a universal strategy for high-performance FET biosensors.

However, the blockage to pores caused by MgO particles is ubiquitous during the preparation, which seriously impaired the enhancement in adsorption performance. In this research, with the intent to enhance phosphate adsorption, an in-situ activation method based on Mg(NO)-activated pyrolysis technology was developed to fabricate MgO-biochar adsorbents with abundant fine pores and active sites simultaneously.

Objective: To assist communities who suffered from hurricane-inflicted damages, emergency responders may monitor social media messages. We present a case-study using the event of Hurricane Matthew to analyze the results of an imputation method for the location of Twitter users who follow school and school districts in Georgia, USA.
Methods: Tweets related to Hurricane Matthew were analyzed by content analysis with latent Dirichlet allocation models and sentiment analysis to identify needs and sentiment changes over time.
Biological nitrogen (N) fixation (BNF) via diazotrophs is an important ecological process for the conversion of atmospheric N to biologically available N. Although soil diazotrophs play a dominant role in BNF and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) serve as helpers to favor BNF, the response of soil BNF and diazotrophic communities to different long-term fertilizations and the role of AMF in diazotrophs-driven BNF are poorly understood. Herein, a 33-year fertilization experiment in a wheat-maize intercropping system was conducted to investigate the changes in soil BNF rates, diazotrophic and AMF communities, and their interactions after long-term representative fertilization (chemical fertilizer, cow manure, wheat straw, and green manure).

To determine how peptidoglycan homeostasis controls cell architecture, growth, and division, we have developed novel labeling approaches. These are compatible with super-resolution fluorescence microscopy to examine peptidoglycan synthesis, hydrolysis, and the localization of the enzymes required for its biosynthesis (penicillin binding proteins (PBPs)).
