Objectives: To assess the effect of donor selection, stool procedures and pretreatment with antibiotics on the efficacy and safety of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT)-treated ulcerative colitis (UC).
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted including studies on UC treated with FMT as the primary therapeutic agent published up to June 30, 2020. Primary end-point data included clinical remission (CR) or CR combined with endoscopic remission.
Background And Purpose: Vasa vasorum (VV) have been believed to be rare or non-existent in small-caliber intracranial arteries. In a series of human cerebral artery specimens, we identified and examined the distribution of VV in association with co-existing intracranial atherosclerosis.
Methods: We obtained cerebral artery specimens from 32 consecutive autopsies of subjects aged 45 years or above.
Background: Anterior and posterior circulation atherosclerosis differ in vascular risk factors and stroke mechanisms. However, few studies have compared the pathological features between these lesions. Using a series of intracranial artery specimens, we characterized the intracranial atherosclerotic lesions and compared pathological features among different arteries of the intracranial vasculature.

It is therefore essential to examine campesterol, β-sitosterol, and cholesterol absorption and cholesterol fractional synthesis rate (FSR) following PS consumption in individuals with high versus low basal circulatory PS concentrations.
Design: A randomized, crossover trial was conducted in 82 hypercholesterolemic men consuming spreads with or without 2 g/d of PS for two 4-week periods, each separated by a 4-week washout.
Previous studies indicated that oxidative stress was involved in phosgene-induced acute lung injury (ALI) and many antioxidants had been used to prevent ALI. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) had been used to protect ALI induced by various types of oxidative stress. Considering the limited information of NAC on phosgene-induced ALI, the purpose of this study was to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of phosgene-induced ALI and the protective effects of NAC.

The aim of the present study was to determine whether PC biomass lowers circulating cholesterol concentrations, dose dependently, in hamsters fed hypercholesterolaemic diets for 28 d and determine whether cholesterol biosynthesis is affected. Biomass added to diets at 2.

In this study, we have investigated anti-inflammatory activities of prosapogenin D (PrsD) and prosapogenin D methyl ester (PrsDMe) of PD. The results indicated that PrsDMe concentration-dependently inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, however, PrsD did not inhibit NO production in LPS-induced macrophages.

The individual or combined genetic markers, such as single nuclear polymorphisms (SNPs), of these two transporter genes may explain inter-individual variations in plasma cholesterol response following plant sterol (PS) intervention. The present study was aimed at investigating the association between ABCG5/G8 and NPC1L1 genotype SNPs with sterol absorption and corresponding plasma concentrations.

In order to examine the effects of platycodin D on hypercholesterolemia in male ICR mice, platycodin D with doses of 15, 30 or 50 mg/kg was orally administered for 8 weeks. Changes in body weight and daily food intake were measured regularly during the experimental period.

They exhibit potent biological activities in mammalian systems, including several beneficial effects such as anti-inflammation and immunomodulation. In this study, we investigated the effects of seven platycodin saponins on the activities of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase II (COX-2) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW 264.
