Article Synopsis
  • A significant percentage of colorectal cancer patients experience liver metastases, contributing to high mortality rates; studies suggest that the intestinal bacteria Fusobacterium nucleatum may play a role in this progression.
  • A prospective, double-blind study will involve 300 patients to test if long-term use of the antibiotic metronidazole can reduce the occurrence of liver metastases after surgery.
  • The study has received ethics approval and will share its findings through conferences and articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Article Synopsis
  • Proximal gastrectomy is becoming popular because it helps preserve stomach function, but it can lead to complications that impact quality of life, prompting the need for better surgical techniques.
  • A new study will compare the left-open single-flap technique with the double-flap technique in a multicenter randomized trial involving 250 patients to see which method reduces surgical difficulties and complications.
  • The goal is to provide evidence for improving surgical reconstruction methods after proximal gastrectomy, contributing to better clinical practices and guidelines.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in 1,750 patients with gastric and colorectal cancers, identifying how often it occurs and the associated risk factors, particularly before surgery.
  • - Out of the patients reviewed, 73 were found to have DVT, resulting in a prevalence rate of 4.17%, with significant risk factors including being female, stage IV cancer, and higher ASA class.
  • - The findings suggest that preoperative venous ultrasonography can effectively detect DVT, helping to prevent postoperative complications like pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), making it a vital tool in surgical planning for these cancer patients.

Background: Appropriate gastrointestinal reconstruction after proximal gastrectomy can effectively reduce the incidence of postoperative complications in patients with proximal early gastric cancer. However, there is still great controversy about the choice of digestive tract reconstruction after proximal gastrectomy, and there is no clinical consensus on the choice of digestive tract reconstruction after proximal gastrectomy. Currently, there is a lack of large-sample, prospective, randomized controlled studies to compare the efficacy of Kamikawa, double-tract reconstruction, and tube-like stomach reconstruction after proximal gastrectomy.

Malignancies of alimentary tract include esophageal carcinoma (ESCA), stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD), colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), and rectum adenocarcinoma (READ). Despite of their similarities in cancer development and progression, there are numerous researches concentrating on single tumor but relatively little on their common mechanisms. Our study explored the transcriptomic data of digestive tract cancers from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, yielding their common differentially expressed genes including 1,700 mRNAs, 29 miRNAs, and 362 long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs).
