The first national pediatric immune thrombocytopenia registry in Iran: research protocol and preliminary study results.

Background: Disease registries are comprehensive databases that record detailed information on patients diagnosed with specific conditions, providing valuable insights into their diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. This study aims to describe the pilot phase of the national pediatric Immune Thrombocytopenia(ITP) registry (NPITP) in Iran, serving as the inaugural interpretive report.

Methods: This patient-centered software system was implemented as a national program across multiple pediatric centers in Iran.

Zidovudine and Interferon Alfa based regimens for the treatment of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL): a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: ATLL (Adult T-Cell Leukemia/Lymphoma) is an aggressive hematological malignancy. This T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, caused by the human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1), is challenging to treat. There is no known treatment for ATLL as of yet.

Air pollution impacts on in-hospital case-fatality rate of ischemic stroke patients.

Background: A growing body of evidence suggests that air pollution exposure is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Data regarding the impact of long-term air pollution exposure on ischemic stroke mortality are sparse.

Methods: The German nationwide inpatient sample was used to analyse all cases of hospitalized patients with ischemic stroke in Germany 2015-2019, which were stratified according to their residency.

Genetic defects in the development, maturation, and/or function of the immune cells can lead to Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) which may predispose patients to malignancies. The overall risk for cancer in children with IEI ranges from 4 to 25% and the type of malignancy is highly dependent on the specific mutant gene underlying IEI. We investigated 3056 IEI patients registered in the Iranian national registry between the years 1999 and 2020 in this retrospective cohort study.

In light of the growing emphasis on classifying stroke patients for different levels of monitoring intensity and emergency treatments, we conducted a systematic review of a wide range of clinical studies, according to the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, with no restrictions on the language or publication date, to analyze the potential of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as an early neurological deterioration (END) risk predictor. A comprehensive search was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases from the inception to March 13, 2022. Nine articles were included in our study.

Effects of 3 different light-curing units on the physico-mechanical properties of bleach-shade resin composites.

Objectives: This study investigated the microhardness, flexural strength, and color stability of bleach-shade resin composites cured with 3 different light-curing units.

Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, 270 samples were fabricated of bleach and A2 shades of 3 commercial resin composites (Point 4, G-aenial Anterior, and Estelite Sigma Quick). Samples ( = 5 for each trial) were cured with Bluephase N, Woodpecker LED.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) alters the pattern of information processing in children with ADHD: Evidence from drift diffusion modeling.

Objective: Performance accuracy and reaction time in cognitive tasks are routinely used to evaluate the efficacy of tDCS to affect cognitive task performance. tDCS alters the excitability of targeted brain areas and thereby alters performance of cognitive tasks. The drift diffusion model (DDM) provides some additional measures to explore information processing style, such as (non)decision time, bias for decision, and speed of information processing.

Aim: Several new bioactive compounds were recently introduced to the market with favorable ion release, tooth remineralization, and alkalizing potential. This study sought to compare the phosphate ion release and alkalizing potential of three bioactive materials in comparison with composite resin.

Methods: Thirty-six discs (2 × 6 mm) were fabricated from Fuji II LC resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI), Activa BioActive, Cention N, and Z250 composite in plastic molds.

Purpose: Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and spiral chest computed tomography (CT) scan are important methods in the prediction of infiltrating and non-infiltrating lymph nodes, and the determination of their diagnostic accuracy would result in a reduction of the burden of problems and an improvement in prognosis. The purpose in this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of endobronchial ultrasound and spiral chest CT scan in the prediction of infiltrating and non-infiltrating lymph nodes in patients undergoing endobronchial ultrasound.

Material And Methods: In this observational prospective study, 40 consecutive patients with infiltrating and non-infiltrating lymph nodes in Masih-Daneshvari Hospital in 2017 and 2018 were enrolled, and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of EBUS and CT-scan versus fine needle aspiration pathology results were determined in them.

The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of adolescents with different obesity phenotypes and the role of obesity phenotypes in prediction of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in adults. For this population-based cohort study, 2159 adolescents aged 11-18 years were included.

Malignancy in common variable immunodeficiency: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

: Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is the most common clinically significant primary immunodeficiency (PID) disorder characterized by variable clinical manifestations including recurrent infections, autoimmune disorders, enteropathy, lymphoproliferative disorders, and malignancy. The aim of this study is to estimate the overall prevalence of malignancy in patients with CVID. : PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus were searched systemically to find eligible studies from the earliest available date to March 2019 with standard keywords.

Effect of Diaphragm Plication in Thymoma Patients with and without Myasthenia Gravis.

Background: Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum that has the most effective treatment, as it can be completely resected. In patients with advanced stage, phrenic nerve involvement can be seen and suggested treatment for these patients is unilateral phrenic excision and diaphragm plication. However in patients with myasthenia gravis, there are concerns in relation to this method of treatment.

Thoracoscopic sympathicotomy in the treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis.

Background: Primary hyperhidrosis interferes with social activities and requires an effective and safe treatment. We aimed to compare the therapeutic outcomes of unilateral single-port sympathicotomy and open surgery.

Methods: Forty patients with primary palmar hyperhidrosis underwent sympathicotomy; 20 had open surgery, and 20 had video-assisted thoracic surgery.

Effect of decortication and pleurectomy in chronic empyema patients.

Background: Fibrosis that occurs in the chronic phase of pleural empyema restricts lung movement and impairs pulmonary function. It also leads to asymmetry of the chest wall. We evaluated the efficacy of decortication and pleurectomy in improving these adverse consequences.

Therapeutic Outcomes of Pectoralis Major Muscle Turnover Flap in Mediastinitis.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic results and safety of pectoralis major muscle turnover flaps in the treatment of mediastinitis after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures.

Methods: Data regarding 33 patients with post-CABG deep sternal wound infections (DSWIs) who underwent pectoralis major muscle turnover flap procedures in the Emam Reza and Ghaem Hospitals of Mashhad, Iran were reviewed in this study. For each patient, age, sex, hospital stay duration, remission, recurrence, and associated morbidity and mortality were evaluated.

Efficacy of minimally invasive surgery in diagnosis of interstitial lung disease.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of video-assisted thoracic surgery in reaching a specific diagnosis in patients with interstitial lung disease.

Methods: Thirty-eight patients with interstitial lung disease (19 males, 19 females; mean age 47.73 years) who had undergone video-assisted thoracic surgery at Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran, between 2010 and 2013 were evaluated retrospectively in this study.

Evaluation of the results of surgery treatment in patients with benign lung tumors.

Background: Lung tumors are among the common tumors and can be benign or malignant. Benign lung tumors are less common compared to the malignant types. Recognition of the clinical symptoms, types of tumors, paraclinical findings, and treatment approaches can bring better therapeutic results.
