Multicenter analysis of endoclot as hemostatic powder in different endoscopic settings of the upper gastrointestinal tract.

Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) still presents a demanding situation with high morbidity and mortality rates; thus hemostatic powders such as EndoClot (EC) have been developed to improve endoscopic armament. The aim of the present study was to determine which indications triggered the application of EC and to assess resulting hemostasis rates. Forty three patients undergoing endoscopical procedures in three hospitals; two tertiary care and one university hospital, were included.

We performed a fine-mapping association study in 1926 GC patients and 2012 controls of European descent using high dense SNP marker sets on both chromosomal regions.

LI-RADS-CEUS - Proposal for a Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Algorithm for the Diagnosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in High-Risk Populations.

To develop a contrast-enhanced ultrasound algorithm (LI-RADS-CEUS = liver imaging reporting and data system with contrast-enhanced ultrasound) for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients at risk. A CEUS algorithm (LI-RADS-CEUS) was designed analogously to CT- and MRI-based LI-RADS. LI-RADS-CEUS was evaluated retrospectively in 50 patients at risk with confirmed HCC or non-HCC lesions (test group) with subsequent validation in a prospective cohort of 50 patients (validation group).

Jejunitis and brown bowel syndrome with multifocal carcinogenesis of the small bowel.

This is the first report describing a case where prolonged, severe malabsorption from brown bowel syndrome progressed to multifocally spread small bowel adenocarcinoma. This case involves a female patient who was initially diagnosed with chronic jejunitis associated with primary diffuse lymphangiectasia at the age of 26 years. The course of the disease was clinically, endoscopically, and histologically followed for 21 years until her death at the age 47 due to multifocal, metastasizing adenocarcinoma of the small bowel.

Plasma histamine and tumour necrosis factor-alpha levels in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis at various stages of disease.

Mast cells secrete numerous mediators and this study investigated plasma levels of histamine, and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) in chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Plasma levels of histamine were determined in 68 patients with Crohn's disease (CD), 22 with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 13 controls. TNF-α levels were assessed in 29 CD patients, 11 UC patients, and in 11 controls.

Models of social anxiety suggest that negative social experiences contribute to the development of social anxiety, and this is supported by self-report research. However, there is relatively little experimental evidence for the effects of learning experiences on social cognitions. The current study examined the effect of observing a social performance situation with a negative outcome on children's (8 to 11 years old) fear-related beliefs and cognitive processing.

Primary Manifestation of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Following Subcutaneous Autovaccination.

Onset of inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] is nowadays seen as an interplay or a combination of genetic susceptibility, disturbed intestinal immunity, and environmental factors including gut microbiome. However, the initiation of inflammation and progression to IBD pathogenesis in a given individual is poorly understood. In this case report we describe the clinical course of a 17-year-old female patient developing symptoms suggestive of IBD after 'autovaccine therapy', in which sterilised samples of the patient's own stool were injected subcutaneously for improvement of her general immunity.
