Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) still presents a demanding situation with high morbidity and mortality rates; thus hemostatic powders such as EndoClot (EC) have been developed to improve endoscopic armament. The aim of the present study was to determine which indications triggered the application of EC and to assess resulting hemostasis rates. Forty three patients undergoing endoscopical procedures in three hospitals; two tertiary care and one university hospital, were included.

We aimed to replicate these findings and to characterize the associations at the genome and transcriptome level. We performed a fine-mapping association study in 1926 GC patients and 2012 controls of European descent using high dense SNP marker sets on both chromosomal regions.

Allergic diseases are reportedly associated with reduced plasma levels of ascorbate, which is a key physiological antioxidant. Ascorbate prevents excessive inflammation without reducing the defensive capacity of the immune system.

Stability across different long-term care facilities was tested. Care level-based nurse-to-resident ratios were compared with the standard minimum nurse-to-resident ratios.

This study was performed to assess vitamin C concentrations in the German population. Methods As part of a consultant-patient seminar on nutrition and food intolerances, patients were asked to participate in this study on a voluntary basis.

Aim: We evaluated risk factors of an incomplete CE with focus on patient hospitalization.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 161 consecutive patients who underwent CE between 01.

. Gastrointestinal bleeding represents the main indication for emergency endoscopy (EE). Lately, several hemostatic powders have been released to facilitate EE.

Methods: Unselected consecutive patients presenting with acute non-surgical perforations or postoperative anastomotic leaks or perforations underwent attempted OTSC placement as primary closure method after interdisciplinary consensus in three tertiary referral centres. Their clinical data and intervention characteristics were evaluated in an intention to treat analysis during a 24-month period to assess closure rates, 30-day mortality, hospitalization and comorbidity.
Introduction: The prognostic outcome following progression after palliative first-line treatment for patients suffering from metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma is generally poor. Long-term relapse-free survival with palliative second-line treatment may be achieved in only a limited number of individual cases.
Case Report: A 37-year-old patient presented with bilobar liver metastases of colon cancer confirmed by histology with wild-type K-RAS (exon 2).
To develop a contrast-enhanced ultrasound algorithm (LI-RADS-CEUS = liver imaging reporting and data system with contrast-enhanced ultrasound) for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients at risk. A CEUS algorithm (LI-RADS-CEUS) was designed analogously to CT- and MRI-based LI-RADS. LI-RADS-CEUS was evaluated retrospectively in 50 patients at risk with confirmed HCC or non-HCC lesions (test group) with subsequent validation in a prospective cohort of 50 patients (validation group).

Under certain circumstances (eg, inadequate transillumination), endoscopic placement of PEG/PEJ tubes is impossible. In these cases, computed tomography (CT)-guided PEG/PEJ may represent an alternative technique.

It combines the possibility of a panenteroscopy with the immediate chance for intervention. This study evaluates the yield of DBE for the detection and treatment of MGIB in an unselected patient cohort.

This is the first report describing a case where prolonged, severe malabsorption from brown bowel syndrome progressed to multifocally spread small bowel adenocarcinoma. This case involves a female patient who was initially diagnosed with chronic jejunitis associated with primary diffuse lymphangiectasia at the age of 26 years. The course of the disease was clinically, endoscopically, and histologically followed for 21 years until her death at the age 47 due to multifocal, metastasizing adenocarcinoma of the small bowel.

Plasma levels of histamine were determined in 68 patients with Crohn's disease (CD), 22 with ulcerative colitis (UC) and 13 controls. TNF-α levels were assessed in 29 CD patients, 11 UC patients, and in 11 controls.

However, there is relatively little experimental evidence for the effects of learning experiences on social cognitions. The current study examined the effect of observing a social performance situation with a negative outcome on children's (8 to 11 years old) fear-related beliefs and cognitive processing.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOnset of inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] is nowadays seen as an interplay or a combination of genetic susceptibility, disturbed intestinal immunity, and environmental factors including gut microbiome. However, the initiation of inflammation and progression to IBD pathogenesis in a given individual is poorly understood. In this case report we describe the clinical course of a 17-year-old female patient developing symptoms suggestive of IBD after 'autovaccine therapy', in which sterilised samples of the patient's own stool were injected subcutaneously for improvement of her general immunity.

Several imaging methods have been used to analyse the pathologic signs. Because of the lack of precise pre- and intraoperative overview and the difficulty locating osseous pathologies, arthroscopic and minimal invasive treatment is still challenging, even for trained surgeons.
