- KDIGO offers two criteria (serum creatinine and urine output) to identify acute kidney injury (AKI), but inconsistencies in applying these criteria have hampered effective use of urine output data.
- The study aimed to evaluate how well these criteria identify AKI in ICU patients by comparing standard serum creatinine measurements to real-time urine output data collected electronically.
- Results showed that continuous urine output monitoring identified significantly more AKI cases (57.9%) and detected them earlier than serum creatinine alone, which could help clinicians initiate early treatment strategies.
