We study the two-dimensional (2D) Ising model in a complex magnetic field in the vicinity of the Yang-Lee edge singularity. By using Baxter's variational corner transfer matrix method combined with analytic techniques, we numerically calculate the scaling function and obtain an accurate estimate of the location of the Yang-Lee singularity. The existing series expansions for susceptibility of the 2D Ising model on a triangular lattice by Chan, Guttmann, Nickel, and Perk allowed us to substantially enhance the accuracy of our calculations.

Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) secondary to perinatal asphyxia occurs when the brain does not receive enough oxygen and blood. A surrogate marker for "intact survival" is necessary for the successful management of HIE. The severity of HIE can be classified based on clinical presentation, including the presence of seizures, using a clinical classification scale called Sarnat staging; however, Sarnat staging is subjective, and the score changes over time.

High ambient temperatures pose serious productive challenges to poultry farmers in the tropics with adverse consequences such as reduced egg production. A study was undertaken to assess the effect of naked neck (Na) and frizzle (F) genes on the performance of F and F generations of crosses of commercial and indigenous chickens in Ghana. One thousand, five hundred and sixty-five (1,565) eggs distributed in a randomized complete block design comprising 4 genotypes and 15 hatches were used for the first study.

Genetic improvement in commercial broilers worldwide is heavily focused on selection for higher final body weight at a given age. Although commercial broilers are mostly sold by their final body weight, it is important to carefully consider how this weight is attained and at what cost. The cost of feeding broilers, which constitutes about 70% of the total cost of broiler production, varies considerably at different stages of the bird.

Objectives: To present a comprehensive real-world micro-costing analysis of bariatric surgery.

Methods: Patients were included if they underwent primary bariatric surgery (gastric banding [GB], gastric bypass [GBP] and sleeve gastrectomy [SG]) between 2013 and 2019. Costs were disaggregated into cost items and average-per-patient costs from the Australian healthcare systems perspective were expressed in constant 2019 Australian dollars for the entire cohort and subgroup analysis.

Estimated breeding values of a selection index, production, durability, health, and fertility traits from Canadian Ayrshire, Jersey, and Brown Swiss bulls and cows were used to study genetic selection differentials (GSD). The bulls and cows were born from 1950 and 1960, respectively. The GSD for the 3 Canadian dairy populations were studied along the 4-path selection model: sire-to-bull (SB), dam-to-bull (DB), sire-to-cow (SC), and dam-to-cow (DC) pathways.

Estimated breeding values for a selection index, production, durability, health, and fertility traits for Canadian Holstein bulls and cows born from 1950 and 1960, respectively, were used to define and determine realized genetic selection differentials (GSD) and generation intervals along the 4-path model of genetic improvement and the variability among herds in realized GSD. The effects of some non-genetic factors on realized GSD were also determined. The mean generation intervals of the sire-to-bull (SB), dam-to-bull (DB), sire-to-cow (SC), and dam-to-cow (DC) pathways reduced, respectively, from 9.

Background: Within the Australian public hospital setting, no studies have previously reported total hospital utilisation and costs (pre/postoperatively) and costed patient-level pathways for primary bariatric surgery and surgical sequelae (including secondary surgery) informed by Australia's Independent Hospital Pricing Authority's activity-based funding (ABF) model.

Objective: We aimed to provide our Tasmanian state government partner with information regarding key evidence gaps about the resource use and costs of bariatric surgery (including pre- and postoperatively, types of surgery and comorbidities), the costs of surgical sequelae and policy direction regarding the types of bariatric surgery offered within the Tasmanian public hospital system.

Methods: Hospital inpatient length of stay (days), episodes of care (number) and aggregated cost data were extracted for people who were waiting for and subsequently received bariatric surgery (for the fiscal years 2007-2008 to 2015-2016) from administrative sources routinely collected, clinically coded/costed according to ABF.

HPC infusions have been associated with a variety of adverse events related to either patient or HPC product-related factors. Studies documenting infusion-related AEs in children are limited. We reviewed HPC infusion records in 354 children.

This study assessed the relationship between solitary confinement and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in a cohort of recently released former prisoners. The cross-sectional design utilized baseline data from the Transitions Clinic Network, a multi-site prospective longitudinal cohort study of post-incarceration medical care. Our main independent variable was self-reported solitary confinement during the participants' most recent incarceration; the dependent variable was the presence of PTSD symptoms determined by primary care (PC)-PTSD screening when participants initiated primary care in the community.

This study was conducted to investigate the influence of male proximity on vaginal patency, estrous cycle length and feed intake of nulliparous and pluriparous grasscutter (Thryonomys swinderianus) does. Twelve non-pregnant and non-lactating adult female (six nulliparous and six pluriparous) grasscutters and six proven male grasscutters were used for the study in a 2 × 2 factorial design. The factors were the type of contact between the sexes (no visual contact v.

Milk yield traits and lactation length of two breeds of cattle raised on natural pasture with little or no supplementation were assessed. A total of 42 573 daily milk records on 98 Friesian-Sanga cows collected over a period of 10 years and 17 790 daily milk records on 72 Sanga cows spanning a 6-year period were used in the study. Traits examined for each breed were daily milk yield, total milk yield, 305-day milk yield, 305-day milk yield/day and lactation length.

Competency-based education is based on the identification of clearly defined learning outcomes. Three major elements of a competency-based program must be determined during the development of the curriculum: statements of competency, the learning experiences that will support these competencies, and the methods for assessing or measuring attainment of these competencies. This article describes the methods used in assessing clinical competency in dental education.

Studies of sex differences in first admission age for inpatients in Missouri public psychiatric hospitals were examined for the incidence of major affective illness and dysthymia. Patients diagnosed as schizophrenic were also studied to check for diagnostic comparability. Those males diagnosed as having major affective illness were admitted 3.

The addition of an associate to one's dental practice can be both a productive and mutually satisfying relationship. Before hiring an associate, however, the employer-dentist must first assess the financial implication for the practice. This article offers guidelines for assessing this impact and the structuring of an equitable compensation package for the associate.

Torsion of the testis demands early diagnosis and urgent operative treatment. This study of all patients with torsion of the testis who were admitted to The Prince of Wales Children's Hospital, The Prince of Wales Hospital and The Prince Henry Hospital, Sydney, between 1965 and 1987, reinforces the need for urgent diagnosis and treatment and evaluates the diagnostic value of the sign of the contralateral horizontal testis. One hundred and thirty-one patients were studied; the majority was in the adolescent age-group.
