To investigate the possible developmental programming, we analyzed the effects of maternal and postnatal low dose alpha-cypermethrin exposure on metabolic and redox parameters in the offspring. Postnatal changes in plasma biochemical parameters and plasma and tissue oxidative stress markers were determined in offspring of dams fed standard chow or diet containing alpha cypermethrin at 1.50mg/kg/day during gestation and lactation, weaned on to standard chow or on treated diet until adulthood (5months).

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study, pregnant rats exposed to low doses of alpha-cypermethrin showed increased body weight, elevated plasma glucose and lipid levels, and altered enzyme activities in both mothers and their offspring.
  • * The exposure caused oxidative stress and disrupted the balance of antioxidants, affecting metabolic health in both the mother and the developing fetus, indicating that caution is needed when using this insecticide during pregnancy.
