We conducted a me-too validation study to confirm the reproducibility, reliability, and predictive capacity of KeraSkin™ skin irritation test (SIT) as a me-too method of OECD TG 439. With 20 reference chemicals, within-laboratory reproducibility (WLR) of KeraSkin™ SIT in the decision of irritant or non-irritant was 100%, 100%, and 95% while between-laboratory reproducibility (BLR) was 100%, which met the criteria of performance standard (PS, WLR≥90%, BLR≥80%). WLR and BLR were further confirmed with intra-class correlation (ICC, coefficients >0.

Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase that regulates the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling pathway. Deregulation of JAK2 signaling has previously been observed in hematologic malignancies, including erythroleukemia. In the present study, an aminopyridine derivative compound, KRC-180, exhibited direct inhibition of the JAK2 protein at the catalytic site, as demonstrated using kinase activity assays and docking analyses.

A qualitative systematic review was performed to identify associations of obesity and dyslipidemia with intake of sodium, fat, and sugar among Koreans. We reviewed 6 Korean research databases (KMbase, KoreaMed, NDSL, DBpia, RISS, KISS) with the keywords "sodium intake," "fat intake," and "sugar intake." Total of 11 studies were investigated in this present study.

C-C chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) regulates leukocyte chemotaxis and activation, and its deficiency exacerbates development of nephritis. Therefore, we investigated the role of CCR5 during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute kidney injury. CCR5-deficient (CCR5-/-) and wild-type (CCR5+/+) mice, both aged about 10 months, had acute renal injury induced by intraperitoneal injection of LPS (10 mg/kg).

The levels of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were determined in 50 samples of Korean human milk. POPs include organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) [aldrin, chlordanes, dieldrin, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), endrins, heptachlors, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), mirex, and toxaphenes] and marker PCBs (PCB28, PCB52, PCB101, PCB138, PCB153 and PCB180). In all samples, p,p'-DDE were determined as 75.

A clinical isolate of Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis in Korea was found to produce the extended-spectrum beta-lactamase CTX-M-15. The isolate was recovered in 2008 from the stool of a 3-yr-old boy with gastroenteritis. This isolate was found to be resistant to multiple drugs, including ampicillin, piperacillin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, cefepime, and aztreonam.

This study compared the effectiveness of bladder training versus pelvic muscle exercises in the treatment of urinary incontinence in women. It was revealed that the two intervention groups showed improvement compared with the control group, but differed in their effects on outcome measures. The pelvic muscle exercise group was more effective in increasing the peak and the average pressures of pelvic muscle contraction.
