Rotator cuff tears are a common injury that can be treated with or without surgical intervention. Gel-based scaffolds have gained significant attention in the field of tissue engineering, particularly for applications like rotator cuff repair. Scaffolds can be biological, synthetic, or a mixture of both materials.

This comprehensive review synthesizes our current knowledge of PSD, encompassing its epidemiology, risk factors, underlying neurochemical mechanisms, and the existing tools for preclinical investigation, including animal models and behavioral analyses. Despite the high prevalence and severe impact of PSD, challenges persist in accurately modeling its complex symptomatology in preclinical settings, underscoring the need for robust and valid animal models to better understand and treat PSD.

Thus, understanding the molecular mechanisms of chondrogenesis can enhance our knowledge of the fracture repair process. One such molecular process is calciun (Ca) signaling, which is known to play a critical role in the development and regeneration of multiple tissues, including bone, in response to external stimuli.

This review explores our current knowledge of , particularly in the development and function of skeletal muscle. expression originates from Pax7-positive satellite cells in skeletal muscle, peaks during around the third postnatal month, and is crucial for muscle fiber differentiation, fusion, growth, and regeneration.

Although much of what we now know about the role of this pathway in bone is derived from in vitro and animal studies, the same cannot be said about humans. As such, we hypothesized that Wnt signaling will also be a key process in humans during physiological fracture healing as well as in the development of a nonunion (hypertrophic and oligotrophic).

Treatment of these commonly coexisting diseases typically involves the combined prescription of methylphenidate (MP), a psychostimulant, and fluoxetine (FLX), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). MP and cocaine have similar mechanisms of action and this study examined the effects of chronic treatment of MP combined with FLX on cocaine consumption in rats.

Other studies also showed expression associated with skeletal muscle development and hypertrophy. However, its specific role in skeletal muscle function remains unclear.

Successfully reconstructing bone and restoring its dynamic function represents a significant challenge for medicine. Critical size defects (CSDs), resulting from trauma, tumor removal, or degenerative conditions, do not naturally heal and often require complex bone grafting. However, these grafts carry risks, such as tissue rejection, infections, and surgical site damage, necessitating the development of alternative treatments.

Although these medications are known to adversely impact bone mineral content and density, as well as biomechanical integrity during skeletal development in rats, their effect on bone density in children remains largely unknown. The primary aim of this work was to investigate the effects of methylphenidate and MAS on bone density following distal radius fractures in pediatric populations, and secondarily assess any impact on healing.

Older patients with osteoporosis and cancer receive these pharmacological agents regularly. As these patients are long-term survivors, efficient treatment is of paramount importance for their quality of life.

Mustn1 is expressed during embryonic and postnatal skeletal muscle development and its function has been implicated in myogenic differentiation and myofusion. Whether Mustn1 plays a role in glucose homeostasis in anyway remains largely unknown.

While all these methods allow for delivery of MP, it is the oral route that is clinically relevant. IP injections commonly deliver an immediate and maximum dose of MP due to their quick absorption.

Management of this cancer through conventional methods involves invasive treatment options that place patients at an increased risk of adverse events. The use of hydrogels to target osteosarcoma has shown promising results both in vitro and in vivo to eradicate tumor cells while promoting bone regeneration.

Despite a wealth of knowledge about fracture repair, especially gene and more recently miRNA expression, much remains unknown about the molecular differences between normal physiological repair (callus tissue) and a nonunion. To probe this lack of knowledge, we embarked on a study that sought to identify and compare the human miRNAome of normal bone to that present in a normal fracture callus and those from two different classic nonunion types, hypertrophic and oligotrophic.

The presence of the nutrient medium throughout the scaffold pores promotes cell proliferation, and this process depends on several factors such as scaffold geometry, nutrient medium flow rate, shear stress, cell-scaffold focal adhesions and elastic properties of the scaffold material. While numerous studies have addressed the first four factors, the mathematical approach described herein focuses on cell proliferation rate in elastic scaffolds, under constant flux of nutrients.

As both the research on cannabis and use of cannabis continue to grow, novel medicinal uses of both its constituents as well as the whole plant are being discovered. This review examines the role of cannabinoids on osteoporosis, more specifically, the endocannabinoid system and its role in bone remodeling and the involvement of the cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2 in bone health, as well as the effects of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and synthetic cannabinoids on bone.

Treatment for critical size defects (CSDs) in bone often use bone grafts to act as a scaffold to help complete healing. Biological scaffolds require bone extraction from the individual or an outside donor while synthetic grafts mostly suffer from poor degradation kinetics and decreased bioactivity. In this study, we investigated a 3D printed scaffold derived from a novel composite bioink composed of alginate and collagen augmented with varying doses from 2 m g/ m L to 20 m g/ m L of 1% strontium-calcium polyphosphate (SCPP) to control biodegradability and fluid uptake.

Despite their strength, bones do break and the main cause of fractures are trauma and decreased bone mineral density as a result of aging and/or pathology that weakens the bone's microarchitecture and subsequently, its material properties. Osteoporosis is a disease marked by increased osteoclast activity and decreased osteoblastic activity tipping the remodeling balance in favor of bone resorption and can be caused by aging, glucocorticoids, disuse and estrogen-deficiency.
