The RNA-binding PUF proteins are post-transcriptional regulators found throughout the eukaryotic domain. In ten genes termed 1 to 10 have been identified. Considering that the control of gene expression in this parasite is mainly at the post-transcriptional level, we characterized the PUF3 protein by knocking out and overexpressing the gene in epimastigotes and studied different genetic and biological features.

Chagas is an endemic disease in tropical regions of Latin America, caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. High intraspecies variability and genome complexity have been challenges to assemble high quality genomes needed for studies in evolution, population genomics, diagnosis and drug development. Here we present a chromosome-level phased assembly of a TcI T.
