As one of the most efficacious glaucoma surgical techniques, trabeculectomy is considered by many surgeons to be the "gold standard" intra-ocular pressure (IOP)-reducing intervention. The purpose of this study is to present our intra-operative flow-adjusted surgical method, which aims to provide safety and efficacy more simply than previous methods. Retrospectively, we evaluated outcomes for trabeculectomy or phacotrabeculectomy in surgery-naïve eyes over three years for patients with glaucoma not associated with other ocular co-morbidities.

Article Synopsis
  • * Pre-osteoblast cells were cultured on titanium discs and exposed to various electrical potentials and currents, with cell viability assessed through a special assay and microscopy.
  • * Results showed that extreme electrical potentials can detach cells or kill them, but maintaining potentials between -3V and +3V, or using low currents, can preserve cell viability significantly.

Introduction: In total knee arthroplasty (TKA), suboptimal restoration of joint line obliquity (JLO) and joint line height (JLH) may lead to diminished implant longevity, increased risk of complications, and reduced patient reported outcomes. The primary objective of this study is to determine whether restricted kinematic alignment (rKA) leads to improved restoration of JLO and JLH compared to mechanical alignment (MA) in TKA.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study assessed patients who underwent single implant design TKA for primary osteoarthritis, either MA with manual instrumentation or rKA assisted with imageless navigation robotic arm TKA.

(1) Background: In this study, the efficacy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in detecting dental posts was compared to periapical radiography. (2) Methods: A retrospective evaluation of 53 patients' periapical radiographs and CBCT images was performed. The presence and type of the intra-canal dental post were initially determined on the periapical images (PA) radiographs' examination and were then compared to the observer's ability to detect the dental post on a CBCT image.

Stroke stands as a major global health issue, causing high death and disability rates and significant social and economic burdens. The effectiveness of existing stroke risk assessment methods is questionable due to their use of inconsistent and varying biomarkers, which may lead to unpredictable risk evaluations. This study introduces an automatic deep learning-based system for predicting stroke risk (both ischemic and hemorrhagic) and estimating the time frame of its occurrence, utilizing a comprehensive set of known retinal biomarkers from fundus images.

Introduction And Importance: In penetrating neck trauma, carotid artery penetrating trauma is considered one of the most complicated injuries to treat. Active bleeding, large hematomas, and rapid occlusion of the airways make the surgical approach to controlling bleeding and repairing the vessel much more complex, constituting an essential clinical challenge to every surgeon.

Case Presentation: We present 4 cases of patients with carotid artery penetrating trauma.

This study aimed to review the considerations for choosing a suitable sealer according to various endodontic scenarios. An electronic search of PubMed, Scopus, and the Web of Science was undertaken for the keywords of 'sealer choosing', 'appropriate sealer', 'suitable sealer', 'sealer for clinical scenario', and 'sealer for clinical situations'. However, the literature review revealed a lack of studies with practical clinical recommendations regarding the choice of appropriate endodontic root canal sealers for particular clinical situations of root canal treatment.

Motivation: As data storage challenges grow and existing technologies approach their limits, synthetic DNA emerges as a promising storage solution due to its remarkable density and durability advantages. While cost remains a concern, emerging sequencing and synthetic technologies aim to mitigate it, yet introduce challenges such as errors in the storage and retrieval process. One crucial task in a DNA storage system is clustering numerous DNA reads into groups that represent the original input strands.

Background: The outbreaks of circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Viruses (cVDPVs) have emerged as a major challenge for the final stage of polio eradication. In Yemen, an explosive outbreak of cVDPV2 was reported from August 2021 to December 2022. This study aims to compare the patterns of cVDPV2 outbreak, response measures taken by health authorities, and impacts in southern and northern governorates.

Background: Autonomic manifestations have been frequently studied in adults with epilepsy. Here, we evaluated cardiac autonomic (ANS) functions in children with epilepsy in the interictal period and determined the risks for their dysfunctions.

Research Design And Methods: This study included 60 patients (boys = 25; girls = 35 age: 14.

This research examines the interaction between human serum albumin (HSA) and various sugar forms (β-D-fructofuranose (FRC), α-D-glucopyranose (GLC), Keto-D-fructose (FRO), Aldehydo-D-glucose (GLO), and modified Aldehydo-D-glucose (GLOm)) using fluorescent spectroscopy, molecular docking simulations, molecular dynamics, protein conformational clusters (EnGens), molecular fractionation with conjugate caps (MFCC) and quantum biochemistry analysis. We analyze molecular and quantum aspects, uncovering interaction energies between sugar atoms and amino acids. Total interaction energy considers protein fragmentation, energetic decomposition, and interaction energy from a bottom-up perspective.

Article Synopsis
  • - Researchers created a composite disclosing agent to help dentists easily identify and remove resin from teeth without harming nearby healthy enamel.
  • - The study examined how different organic molecules interact with composite resin, leading to the development of a staining agent that targets resin specifically.
  • - Clinical tests showed that methyl salicylate, a molecule with phenyl groups similar to composite monomers, effectively stains the resin but not the enamel, enhancing the disclosing agent's effectiveness.

Infant oral mutilation (IOM) is a ritual ceremony practised mostly in African cultures, in which the primary tooth bud of the deciduous canine is extracted. Complications and risks of IOM include pain, heavy bleeding and infection that may deteriorate to life-threating conditions. The main long-term consequence of IOM is future dental abnormalities.

Background: Medical image segmentation is a well-studied subject within the field of image processing. The goal of this research is to create an AI retinal screening grading system that is both accurate and fast. We introduce a new segmentation network which achieves state-of-the-art results on semantic segmentation of color fundus photographs.

The ideal bone substitute material should be mechanically strong, biocompatible with a resorption rate matching the rate of new bone formation. Brushite (dicalcium phosphate dihydrate) cement is a promising bone substitute material but with limited resorbability and mechanical properties. To improve the resorbability and mechanical performance of brushite cements, we incorporated gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate) and diazonium-treated polyglactin fibers which are well-known for their biocompatibility and bioresorbability.

Rectal trauma is uncommon, but it is usually associated with injuries in adjacent pelvic or abdominal organs. Recent studies have changed the paradigm behind military rectal trauma management, showing better morbidity and mortality. However, damage control techniques in rectal trauma remain controversial.

Urologic trauma is frequently reported in patients with penetrating trauma. Currently, the computerized tomography and vascular approach through angiography/embolization are the standard approaches for renal trauma. However, the management of renal or urinary tract trauma in a patient with hemodynamic instability and criteria for emergency laparotomy, is a topic of discussion.

Damage Control Resuscitation (DCR) seeks to combat metabolic decompensation of the severely injured trauma patient by battling on three major fronts: Permissive Hypotension, Hemostatic Resuscitation, and Damage Control Surgery (DCS). The aim of this article is to perform a review of the history of DCR/DCS and to propose a new paradigm that has emerged from the recent advancements in endovascular technology: The Resuscitative Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA). Thanks to the advances in technology, a bridge has been created between Pre-hospital Management and the Control of Bleeding described in Stage I of DCS which is the inclusion and placement of a REBOA.
