- Results indicated a higher incidence of bloodstream infections in COVID-19 ICUs during the pandemic, with significant increases in related infection rates compared to pre-pandemic times and other non-COVID ICUs.
- Antibiotic usage patterns also shifted, with notable differences in infection rates and antibiotic resistance, particularly regarding extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) positivity rates, which were higher in the COVID-19 ICU.
