Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the gene expression profiles of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) compared to healthy controls, using RNA sequencing and validation methods.
  • - Researchers found 186 differentially expressed genes, with notable upregulation of AQP9, PROK2, and S100A12 in women with PCOS, which could serve as noninvasive diagnostic biomarkers for the condition.
  • - The findings suggest that PCOS may be tied to chronic inflammation and highlight potential avenues for improving women's fertility through targeted treatments based on identified biomarkers.

Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) and Growing Teratoma Syndrome (GTS) are rare and clinically significant conditions often associated with ovarian teratomas. GP involves the development of benign glial implants on the peritoneal surface, while GTS is characterised by the growth of benign, yet enlarging peritoneal implants following chemotherapy for malignant germ cell tumours. These implants are typically histologically mature teratomas devoid of malignancy.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects women of reproductive age globally with an incidence rate of 5% - 26%. Growing evidence reports important roles for microRNAs (miRNAs) in the pathophysiology of granulosa cells (GCs) in PCOS.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to identify the top differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs) and their corresponding targets in hub gene-miRNA networks, as well as identify novel DE-miRNAs by analyzing three distinct microarray datasets.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to assess how common group B Streptococcus (GBS) is among pregnant women and their newborns, as well as the risk of passing it from mother to child.
  • Researchers analyzed 54 studies involving nearly 356,000 women and infants from 30 countries, finding a GBS colonization rate of 17.1% in pregnant women and 1.0% in newborns, with a 4.5% rate of vertical transmission.
  • The study recommends giving antibiotics during labor to all women who test positive for GBS and those at risk of transmitting it to their infants, regardless of their GBS status.

Introduction: Nutrition education is the cornerstone to maintain optimal pregnancy outcomes including gestational weight gain (GWG). Nevertheless, default for appointments is common and often lead to suboptimal achievement of GWG, accompanied with unfavourable maternal and child health outcomes. While mobile health (mHealth) usage is increasing and helps minimising barriers to clinic appointments among pregnant mothers, its effectiveness on health outcomes has been inconclusive.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a multifactorial condition associated with reproductive and endocrine organs and might cause infertility and metabolic abnormalities in childbearing age. PCOS seems to be a multifactorial disorder resulting from the combination of several genetic and environmental factors. Little research has been conducted to date on the impact of polymorphisms in infertility.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), has turned into a global pandemic with multitudinous health impacts.

Main Body: In light of the higher vulnerability of men to COVID-19 than women, there is rising concerns on the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on male fertility and possibilities of seminal contamination and transmission. The pandemic has attributed to the brief suspension of many fertility clinics and pathology laboratories, though many remained functional.

Previous literature has reported that patients with diabetes in pregnancy (DIP) are at risk of developing antepartum depression but the results have been inconsistent in cohort studies. We conducted a systematic review and performed a meta-analysis to quantify the association between DIP and risk of antepartum depression in cohort studies. Medline, Cinahl, and PubMed databases were searched for studies investigating DIP involving pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus and their risk of antepartum depression that were published in journals from inception to 27 December 2019.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition amongst women of reproductive age that can result in increased mortality and morbidity in women due to increased risk of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effectiveness of common treatments of PCOS on the predictors of diabetes in non-diabetic PCOS women. An extensive search was performed on the publications in three medical databases including pubmed, scopus and google scholar from 1995 till 2017.
