Purpose: Dental restorations fabricated using CAD/CAM require modification/adjustment before cementation. Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis are prevalent bacterial species that may adhere to these materials and can cause caries, gingivitis/periodontitis. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bacterial adherence of and to five different kinds of modern CAD/CAM restorative materials with different compositions following chairside finishing/polishing and glazing.

Article Synopsis
  • Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is linked to autonomic impairment, so this study aimed to compare heart rate variability (HRV) across different visceral fat levels in healthy men.
  • * In this cross-sectional study of 99 men, those with lower visceral fat ratings (VFR) showed significantly higher HRV measurements than those with higher VFR.
  • * The findings suggest that reducing VAT could be crucial for improving cardiac-autonomic function, as VFR was a stronger predictor of HRV than overall body fat percentage.

Objectives: To evaluate the changes in oral health-related quality of life [OHRQoL] before and three months after complete denture oral rehabilitation using the Geriatric oral health assessment index [GOHAI] in Pakistani elderly edentulous patients.

Methods: In this descriptive case series study a total of 80 edentulous patients were recruited from Islamic International Dental Hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan from November 2021 to April 2022. The OHRQoL was evaluated twice by using the GOHAI- Urdu version.

Wound management is a critical clinical issue, with substantial economic and social implications. Traditional dressings often lead to poor healing, impacting the effective wound repair is an ongoing challenge. So, this research aimed to investigate the development of a novel medical textile auxiliary in the form of a padded cotton bandage coated with a blend of agricultural biopolymers (xanthan gum and gum arabic) containing AgNPs with an emphasis on environmental friendliness and sustainability.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined how over-fertilizing fish ponds with various fertilizers (NPK, TSP, DAP) leads to increased levels of heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cd, Cr) in water, sediment, and fish species, particularly noting that DAP caused the highest metal concentrations.
  • - Heavy metal levels were significantly higher in fertilizer-applied groups compared to a control group, with DAP showing the most pronounced effects; however, the health index for fish muscles remained safe for consumption.
  • - The researchers emphasize the need for careful monitoring and regulation of fertilizer use, especially DAP, to prevent contamination and recommend exploring sustainable farming practices to reduce environmental health risks.

  • The study examined pesticide residues in water, sediment, and fish from the Indus River in Mianwali, Pakistan, across three sampling sites during dry and wet seasons.
  • Elevated pesticide levels were found, with maximum concentrations noted in dry conditions, particularly for cypermethrin and carbofuran in water and endosulfan in fish, often exceeding safety limits.
  • Results indicated significant health risks due to high Hazard Index values, emphasizing the need for improved agricultural practices and stricter pesticide regulations to protect aquatic ecosystems and food safety.

High fat diet (HFD) is a prime factor, which contributes to the present epidemic of metabolic syndrome. Prolonged intake of HFD induces oxidative stress (OS) that in turn causes neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, insulin resistance, amyloid burden, synaptic dysfunction and cognitive impairment hence leading to Alzheimer's disease neuropathy. Melatonin (secreted by the Pineal gland) has the potential to nullify the toxic effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and have been shown to ameliorate various complications induced by HFD in rodent models.

Objective: One key factor in determining endodontic treatment outcome is the clinicians' comprehension of tooth anatomy, as missed canals may harbor bacteria ultimately leading to apical periodontitis. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of middle mesial canal (MMC) in Mandibular first molars (MFMs) of Saudi subpopulation.

Methods: The cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted at Qassim University Dental College from June to August 2023.

The increasing levels of heavy metals in aquatic environments, driven by human activities, pose a critical threat to ecosystems' overall health and sustainability. This study investigates the bioaccumulation of heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cr, and Cd) in water, sediment, and three fish species (Catla catla, Labeo rohita, Cirrhinus mrigala) of different feeding zones within Chashma Barrage, located in the Mianwali district of Punjab, Pakistan, on the Indus River. A comprehensive analysis, including an assessment of associated human health risks, was conducted.

Physicochemical properties of water influence planktonic diversity and distribution, which is essential in obtaining basic knowledge of aquatic biodiversity. Thus current study aims to investigate the spatiotemporal diversity, abundance ratio, and distribution of phytoplankton species and their association with water quality parameters of Chashma Lake, Pakistan. During the study period from 2018 to 2019, we measured 13 physicochemical parameters across three selected sampling sites (S1, S2, and S3) in Chashma Lake, revealing both spatial and temporal variability.
