Aim: To analyse the potential drivers (glucose level, complications, diabetes type, gender, age and mental health) of diabetes symptoms using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and ecological momentary assessment.

Materials And Methods: Participants used a smartphone application to rate 25 diabetes symptoms in their daily lives over 8 days. These symptoms were grouped into four blocks so that each symptom was rated six times on 2 days (noon, afternoon and evening).

Article Synopsis
  • - This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the impact of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems on person-reported outcomes (PROs) in diabetes management, compiling data from 62 studies with over 9,200 participants.
  • - The findings revealed that AID systems significantly decreased diabetes distress, fear of hypoglycemia, and improved quality of life for both adults and children/adolescents, based on data from randomized controlled trials and observational studies.
  • - Overall, the study suggests that AID therapy can lead to positive outcomes for individuals with diabetes, highlighting its potential benefits despite the varying effect sizes.

Purpose: To report results following deltoid ligament reconstruction in a large series of patients.

Methods: For consecutive patients who had a medial ankle ligament stabilization 2010-2018 information from their medical files was registered, and they were invited for follow-up in 2021-2022. They answered questions about satisfaction with the treatment and current symptoms, and they completed the Foot and Ankle Measurement (FAAM) questionnaire.

Today, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is a standard diagnostic option for patients with diabetes, at least for those with type 1 diabetes and those with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy, according to international guidelines. The switch from spot capillary blood glucose measurement to CGM was driven by the extensive and immediate support and facilitation of diabetes management CGM offers. In patients not using insulin, the benefits of CGM are not so well studied/obvious.

Aims/hypothesis: Diabetes distress is one of the most frequent mental health issues identified in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Little is known about the role of glucose control as a potential contributor to diabetes distress and whether the subjective perception of glucose control or the objective glycaemic parameters are more important for the experience. With the emergence of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), this is a relevant question as glucose values are now visible in real-time.

Feed efficiency is an important trait of dairy production. However, assessing feed efficiency is constrained by the associated cost and difficulty in measuring individual feed intake, especially on pastures. The objective of this study was to investigate short-term feed efficiency traits of herbage-fed dairy cows and screening of potential biomarkers (n = 238).

Background: In a randomized controlled trial, the efficacy of a digital diabetes diary regarding a reduction of diabetes distress was evaluated.

Methods: A randomized controlled trial with a 12-week follow-up was conducted in 41 study sites across Germany. Key eligibility criteria were a diagnosis of type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes and regular self-monitoring of blood glucose.

Blunt cardiac injury, including a rupture of the atria or ventricle, is most commonly caused by motor vehicle collisions and falls from great heights. A rupture of a cardiac chamber is an extremely rare diagnosis with a high mortality rate. The best chance at survival can only be accomplished with timely intervention.

Little is known about mental load in people with diabetes and associations with demographic, clinical, and treatment characteristics, such as the use of diabetes technologies. To explore perceived mental load, 503 adults with diabetes answered the one-item survey "How much time (in minutes) would you spontaneously estimate that you spend each day thinking about your diabetes?" Mental load estimations varied widely within the sample and between subgroups. Perceived mental load was higher in type 1 diabetes than in type 2 diabetes, higher in women than in men and increased with treatment intensity (ie, insulin therapy, technology use) and the number of mental disorders.

Background: The majority of people with type 2 diabetes who require insulin therapy use only basal insulin in combination with other anti-diabetic agents. We tested whether using a smartphone application to titrate insulin could improve glycaemic control in people with type 2 diabetes who use basal insulin.

Methods: This was a 12-week, multicentre, open-label, parallel, randomised controlled trial conducted in 36 diabetes practices in Germany.

The associations of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-specific diabetes education with real-world utilization of glucose alerts and alarms were assessed in current CGM-users with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Germany assessing utilization (use and responses) of different alerts and alarms. Ordinal logistic regression analyses were conducted to analyze associations between utilization and participation in CGM-specific education.

The JAK/STAT pathway plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and JAK inhibitors have emerged as a new group of effective drugs for RA treatment. Recently, high STAT3 levels have been associated with the upregulation of the scaffold protein NEDD9, which is a regulator of T-cell trafficking and promotes collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). In this study, we aimed to reveal how treatment with JAK inhibitors affects NEDD9 in CD4+ T cells from RA patients.

The global outbreak of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 provided the stage to accumulate an enormous biomedical data set and an opportunity as well as a challenge to test new concepts and strategies to combat the pandemic. New research and molecular medical protocols may be deployed in different scientific fields, e.g.

Background: The correct injection technique is crucial for people with insulin therapy. However, barriers to insulin injections exist, which can lead to problems with injections. In addition, injection behavior may deviate from recommendations leading to lower adherence to the correct injection technique.

Aims: People with type 1 diabetes have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Reduced heart rate variability (HRV) is a clinical marker for CVD. In this observational study using continuous HRV measurement across 26 days, we investigated whether psychological stressors (diabetes distress, depressive symptoms) and glycaemic parameters (hypo- and hyperglycaemic exposure, glycaemic variability and HbA ) are associated with lower HRV in people with type 1 diabetes.

Aims: (1) To describe the population of patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) using the rapid-acting insulin analogue glulisine versus lispro and aspart during continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII); (2) to describe insulin relative effectiveness based on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), fasting blood glucose (FBG) and dose; (3) to determine rates of hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Methods: The analysis used March 2021 data from the Diabetes-Patienten-Verlaufsdokumentation registry, which contains data of 618,903 patients with diabetes. Patients were propensity-matched by age, sex, and diabetes duration.

Objective: To estimate time with diabetes distress using ecological momentary assessment (EMA) in people with type 1 diabetes and analyze its associations with glycemic management based on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).

Research Design And Methods: We used EMA to assess diabetes distress in a sample of recently hospitalized adults with type 1 diabetes once a day for 17 consecutive days in an ambulatory setting. Additionally, participants were asked daily about hypoglycemia distress (<70 mg/dL [3.

Aims: Measurement tools to evaluate self-management behavior are useful for diabetes research and clinical practice. The Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) was introduced in 2013 and has become a widely used tool. This article presents a revised and updated version, DSMQ-R, and evaluates its properties in assessing self-management practices in type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D).
