Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate follow-up findings from CT scans of young French bulldogs that had been diagnosed with humeral intracondylar fissures after surgery for humeral condylar fractures.
  • A total of 58 out of 137 operated dogs were French bulldogs, with 12 of them having follow-up CT scans, showing that 11 of the 12 cases (91.7%) had resolved their fissures.
  • The study highlights that these fissures commonly occur in young French bulldogs and usually heal over time, suggesting follow-up imaging is important before taking additional surgical measures.

In Ricinus cotyledons, evidence for proton extrusion came from observation of direct acidification of the medium in the presence of potassium salts. Increasing K(+) influx with increasing pH suggested a link between K(+) influx and H(+) efflux by an H(+) pump. The kinetics of K(+) influx and H(+) efflux were consistent with a 1:1 stoichiometry K(+):H(+), which may indicate either electrical coupling or carrier mediated exchange.

Ricinus cotyledons were used to investigate whether sucrose uptake by the phloem could be due to H(+)-sucrose cotransport. The addition of sucrose to the medium bathing Ricinus cotyledons created a pH shift to more alkaline values. The effect was not observed on the addition of glucose or fructose.
