Medical students from racially minoritized backgrounds receive negative evaluations more frequently, possibly from implicit bias. To determine if a preference for White applicants over Asian and Black applicants exists among resident and attending reviewers of obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) residency applications. In 2021, we sampled academic OB/GYN physicians from 6 academic institutions to randomly receive questionnaire form A or B, each containing 4 contrived Electronic Residency Application Service profiles stratified by United States Medical Licensing Examination scores; institutions attended; and strength of recommendation letters into top-, mid-, and low-tiers.

Babies born to severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus-2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected mothers are at greater risk for perinatal morbidity and more likely to receive a neurodevelopmental diagnosis in the first year of life. However, the effect of maternal infection on placental function and neonatal outcomes varies depending upon the patient population. We set out to test our hypothesis that maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection in our underserved, socioeconomically disadvantaged, mostly unvaccinated, predominantly African American and Latina population in the Bronx, NY would have effects evident at birth.

Diabetic bladder dysfunction (DBD) is a prevalent diabetic complication that is recalcitrant to glucose control. Using the Akita mouse model (type 1) bred to be NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) or NLRP3, we have previously found that females (mild hyperglycemia) progress from an overactive to underactive bladder phenotype and that this progression was dependent on NLRP3-induced inflammation. Here, we examined DBD in the male Akita mouse (severe hyperglycemia) and found by urodynamics only a compensated underactive-like phenotype (increased void volume and decreased frequency but unchanged efficiency).

Background: Drug-related deaths in Scotland are the highest in Europe. Half of all deaths in people experiencing homelessness are drug related, yet we know little about the unmet health needs of people experiencing homelessness with recent non-fatal overdose, limiting a tailored practice and policy response to a public health crisis.
