Contributions of the qualitative Qualicor study embedded in a cohort study on the circumstances of SARS-CoV 2 infection in France.

Objectives: This study aims to understand a major result of ComCor, an online epidemiological study conducted to identify the circumstances of COVID-19 infection in France from 2020 to 2022: One third of respondents reported ignoring the circumstances of their infection.

Methods: We conducted a qualitative study through semi-structured interviews, diagnosed in spring or summer 2021. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, and thematically analyzed.

[Anatomoclinical and dermatoscopic study of trichoadenoma].

Introduction: Trichoadenoma is a very rare follicular tumour with a remarkable histopathological appearance. In this article we present a series of 12 cases of trichoadenoma, as well as the anatomoclinical and dermatoscopic findings in a typical case. We discuss these findings in the light of an extensive literature research.

Sex differences in mandibular repositioning device therapy effectiveness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

Purpose: Mandibular repositioning devices (MRDs) are an effective treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), particularly in patients who refuse or cannot tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). However, sex differences in the response to therapy and predictors of response are not clearly defined. This analysis of data from the long-term prospective ORCADES trial compared MRD efficacy in men and women with OSAS.

Reticulated acanthoma with sebaceous differentiation mimicking melanoma.

Reticulated acanthoma with sebaceous differentiation (RASD) is a rare, benign cutaneous tumor with peculiar histopathologic characteristics [1]. RASD had been described under various synonyms such as superficial epithelioma with sebaceous differentiation, sebocrine adenoma, poroma with sebaceous differentiation, and seborrheic keratosis with sebaceous differentiation [2]. Clinical differential diagnosis of RASD includes cutaneous superficial epithelial neoplasia such as Bowen's disease, superficial basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and intraepidermal eccrine poroma [1].

Fragment-Based Approach to the Development of an Orally Bioavailable Lactam Inhibitor of Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA).

Lp-PLA has been explored as a target for a number of inflammation associated diseases, including cardiovascular disease and dementia. This article describes the discovery of a new fragment derived chemotype that interacts with the active site of Lp-PLA. The starting fragment hit was discovered through an X-ray fragment screen and showed no activity in the bioassay (IC > 1 mM).

[Nested melanoma].

Background: Nested melanoma in elderly subjects is an entity that has been reported in the literature only since 2012. In this paper, we describe its distinctive clinical, dermatoscopic and histopathological features and compare them to previous published cases, with the aim of highlighting certain specific criteria of this melanoma subtype.

[A rare cause of oral pain: The pterygoid hamulus syndrome].

Introduction: Pterygoid hamulus syndrome (PHS) is a rare cause of orofacial and oropharyngeal pain. PHS can be associated with a hamulus hypertrophy or with a bursitis of the palatosalpingeus but it has not always an anatomic cause.

Observation: A 36-year-old woman was seen for a constant posterior palatal pain spreading towards oropharynx, increasing during swallowing and lasting for more than 6 months.

Severe Vitamin D Deficiency May be an Additional Cofactor for the Occurrence of Alcoholic Steatohepatitis.

Background: Among its pleiotropic effects, vitamin D may protect the liver from fibrosis and/or inflammation. However, the impact of vitamin D on liver pathology in hepatitis C remains unclear, and very few studies including alcoholic patients with liver pathologies have been performed. Here we compared the levels of 25-OH vitamin D in the blood of alcoholic patients with the occurrence of alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH) or bridging fibrosis.

Variability and uncertainty of 18F-FDG PET imaging protocols for assessing inflammation in atherosclerosis: suggestions for improvement.

Unlabelled: PET with (18)F-FDG shows promise for the evaluation of metabolic activities in atherosclerotic plaques. Although recommendations regarding the acquisition and measurement protocols to be used for (18)F-FDG PET imaging of atherosclerosis inflammation have been published, there is no consensus regarding the most appropriate protocols, and the image reconstruction approach has been especially overlooked. Given the small size of the targeted lesions, the reconstruction and measurement methods might strongly affect the results.

Discovery of Pyridones As Oral AMPK Direct Activators.

AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is an evolutionarily conserved fuel-sensing enzyme that is activated in shortage of energy and suppressed in its surfeit. AMPK activation stimulates fatty acid oxidation, enhances insulin sensitivity, alleviates hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia, and inhibits proinflammatory changes. Thus, AMPK is a well-received therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders.

Partial volume effect estimation and correction in the aortic vascular wall in PET imaging.

We evaluated the impact of partial volume effect (PVE) in the assessment of arterial diseases with (18)FDG PET. An anthropomorphic digital phantom enabling the modeling of aorta related diseases like atherosclerosis and arteritis was used. Based on this phantom, we performed GATE Monte Carlo simulations to produce realistic PET images with a known organ segmentation and ground truth activity values.

Naphthyridines as novel BET family bromodomain inhibitors.

Bromodomains (BRDs) are small protein domains found in a variety of proteins that recognize and bind to acetylated histone tails. This binding affects chromatin structure and facilitates the localisation of transcriptional complexes to specific genes, thereby regulating epigenetically controlled processes including gene transcription and mRNA elongation. Inhibitors of the bromodomain and extra-terminal (BET) proteins BRD2-4 and T, which prevent bromodomain binding to acetyl-modified histone tails, have shown therapeutic promise in several diseases.
