Distinct tau amyloid assemblies underlie diverse tauopathies but defy rapid classification. Cell and animal experiments indicate tau functions as a prion, as different strains propagated in cells cause unique, transmissible neuropathology after inoculation. Strain amplification requires compatibility of the monomer and amyloid template.

Inadequate nutrition intake during pregnancy elevates the risk of adverse health outcomes during pregnancy, with potential long-term repercussions for both mother and child, extending to subsequent generations. Current initiatives to improve individual dietary habits emphasize promoting nutrition literacy (NL), which encompasses the ability to access, comprehend, and use basic nutrition information and services necessary for making appropriate nutrition decisions. However, there were limited data on the NL of pregnant women in Vietnam.

Background: We aimed to identify the central lifestyle, the most impactful among lifestyle factor clusters; the central health outcome, the most impactful among health outcome clusters; and the bridge lifestyle, the most strongly connected to health outcome clusters, across 29 countries to optimise resource allocation for local holistic health improvements.

Methods: From July 2020 to August 2021, we surveyed 16 461 adults across 29 countries who self-reported changes in 18 lifestyle factors and 13 health outcomes due to the pandemic. Three networks were generated by network analysis for each country: lifestyle, health outcome, and bridge networks.

Background And Objectives: Donor human milk (DHM) from a human milk bank (HMB) is used to feed low-birthweight (LBW) and preterm infants when mothers cannot provide their own breastmilk. The misuse of DHM could interfere with mothers' breastmilk and weaken breastfeeding efforts. This study aimed to identify factors behind prolonged DHM usage during the first six years of Vietnam's first HMB.

This study explored the potential of electroplating sludge (ESs) as a novel and effective photocatalyst for the photodegradation of ciprofloxacin in aqueous solutions. The characterization of the ESs was evaluated using sophisticated techniques, such as XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, FTIR, and BET. ESs-derived photocatalyst materials were found to primarily consist of various metal oxides (Ni-O, Cu-O), which can absorb ultraviolet or visible light.

Introduction: Despite significant successes, immune checkpoint blockade fails to achieve clinical responses in a significant proportion of patients, predictive markers for responses are imperfect and immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are unpredictable. We used T-cell receptor (TCR) sequencing to systematically analyze prospectively collected patient blood samples from a randomized clinical trial of dual immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy to evaluate changes in the T-cell repertoire and their association with response and irAEs.

Methods: Patients with immunotherapy-naïve metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were treated with ipilimumab and nivolumab according to trial protocol (LONESTAR, NCT03391869).

Introduction Prehospital stroke scales have been developed to identify anterior large vessel occlusion (LVO) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients for direct transport to thrombectomy-capable hospitals. However, its performance in a Vietnamese population remains unknown. We aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the Rapid Arterial oCclusion Evaluation (RACE) scale for LVO detection in patients with ischemic stroke presenting within 24 hours in Vietnam.

Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death among non-communicable diseases. The management strategy prioritizes early detection and optimal treatment, with emerging roles for imaging approaches. Photon-counting computed tomography is a new non-invasive diagnostic imaging tool that can detect high-risk plaques in coronary artery disease patients.

The brown marmorated stink bug (), a native of Asia, has become an invasive pest in North America and Europe. Given the severity of and the need for better and environmentally-friendly control methods for this pest, we evaluated the virulence four entomopathogenic nematode species (, and ) that occur naturally in soils in southern Việt Nam and compared them with that of a commercially available strain of . We report for the first time the pathogenicity of towards BMSB.

Introduction: The Longan fruit tree of the Vietnam Mekong Delta is grown in raised beds to improve water drainage during the rainy season and can live as long as 100 years.

Objective: This research explores the extent to which the soil microorganisms as well as soil physical and chemical properties of these raised beds degrade over a period of 60 years under traditional management practices.

Materials And Methods: Raised bed topsoil samples at depths of 0-20 cm were obtained from four different Longan orchards raised bed age groups: group 1) 15-25 years (L1-L5); group 2) 26-37 years (L6-L10); group 3) 38-45 years (L11-L15); and group 4) 46-60 years.

Purpose: Effective therapy for recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) that is refractory to chemotherapy and immunotherapy is a considerable need. Aurora kinase A inhibition leads to apoptosis and immunogenic cell death in preclinical models of human papilloma virus (HPV)-driven cancers.

Experimental Design: Alisertib was administered orally twice daily on days 1-7 and pembrolizumab on day 1 of a 21-day cycle to adults with advanced solid tumors (phase 1) or with immunotherapy- and platinum-resistant, HPV-positive HNSCC (phase 2).

Introduction: Recent trials have demonstrated the remarkable benefit of endovascular treatment (EVT) up to 24 h in patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) and target mismatch profiles; however, benefits of late-window EVT in Vietnamese population remain poorly understood. This study aims to evaluate the real-world outcomes of EVT in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients selected using perfusion imaging within the 6-24-h window.

Methods: This is a prospective study of consecutive patients with anterior circulation LVO stroke who underwent EVT within 6-24 h after last known well between August 2022 and March 2024.

Polyethylene (PE), widely utilized in everyday life, is notorious for its protracted degradation period, extending over decades, presenting an environmental hazard. Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing microorganisms to aid in PE decomposition. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations are valuable tools for understanding specific mechanisms and conducting initial screenings to support experimental research in this context.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus in seafood and marine environments poses significant health risks, causing gastroenteritis worldwide. Current detection methods fail to differentiate live from dead cells, leading to inaccuracies in food safety assessments. This study introduces a novel method combining cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (CDDP) with direct colorimetric loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for rapid and accurate detection of viable V.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed breast cancer patients at Johns Hopkins from 2010 to 2021 to determine if those with genetic variants had a higher likelihood of multifocal or multicentric breast cancer (MFMC).
  • Among 282 patients, 24% tested positive for a genetic variant, but there was no significant difference in MFMC rates between variant carriers and non-carriers (28% vs. 22%).
  • The findings suggest that having a genetic variant does not increase the risk of developing MFMC breast cancer, contrary to some beliefs regarding breast-conserving surgery in BRCA gene carriers.
