NKX2-1 is a homeodomain transcription factor that is critical for genesis of the thyroid and transcription of the thyroid-specific genes. Nkx2-1-thyroid-conditional hypomorphic mice were previously developed in which Nkx2-1 gene expression is lost in 50% of the thyroid cells. Using this mouse line as compared with wild-type and Nkx2-1 heterozygous mice, a thyroid carcinogenesis study was carried out using the genotoxic carcinogen N-bis(2-hydroxypropyl)-nitrosamine (DHPN), followed by sulfadimethoxine (SDM) or the non-genotoxic carcinogen amitrole (3-amino-1,2,4-triazole).

He was referred to our hospital with a chief complaint of epigastralgia and suffered from leukocytosis. Differential diagnosis included pancreatic tumors and submucosal tumor of the stomach, but definite preoperative diagnosis could not be made.

Three main gaps were apparent: first was a gap between information that consumers wanted to receive and information that was widely disclosed by manufacturers of CHPs, second was a gap between the advisors whom consumers regarded as appropriate and the advisors who consumers had actually consulted, and a gap between what consumers expect pharmacists to know and pharmacists' actual knowledge. Manufacturers' efforts alone will not be able to close these gaps because of the number of regulations.

This study aims to evaluate cost-effectiveness of these agents under Japan's health system. A cost-effectiveness analysis with Markov model consisting of eight health states such as healthy, invasive breast cancer, and endometrial cancer is carried out.

The rates of Asian countries are lower than those of countries in North America or Europe but are exceptionally high in Japanese males. Approximately 30% of patients with RCC have metastasis at initial diagnosis, and another 30% have metastasis after nephrectomy.

Because the lectin has binding sites to galactosamine, galactosamine labeled with daunomycin having electroactivity was prepared. When labeled galactosamine (LG) combines with lectin, the part of daunomycin is taken in the binding sites of the lectin and becomes electroinactive.

The chromium(VI) is collected as its 1,5-diphenylcarbazide(DPC) complex on a column of chitin in the presence of dodecyl sulfate as counter-ion. The Cr-DPC complex retained on the chitin is eluted with a methanol-1 M acetic acid mixture (7:3, v/v), and the absorbance of the eluent is measured at 541 nm.

Therefore, we examined a method to decrease the number of unnecessary biopsies while maintaining the power of the test by using PSA, PSA free/total ratio (PSAf/t), and digital rectal examination (DRE). The subjects were 232 patients with PSA levels of 4.

We quantified pathological changes such as glomerular damage (glomerular sclerosis and collapse), vascular patency and interstitial fibrosis to determine statistical correlations with clinical data.
Methods: We examined 25 patients who were diagnosed with malignant hypertension and investigated correlations among age, urinary protein, SUN, 1/Cre, systolic BP and diastolic BP (from medical charts), interstitial fibrosis, glomerular damage, acute tubular damage (semiquantified by scoring) and arterial and arteriolar patency (from renal biopsies).

The bactericidal activities and postantibiotic effects (PAEs) of levofloxacin and gatifloxacin at concentrations corresponding to those in antibiotic eye drops against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains were determined. Levofloxacin and gatifloxacin at concentrations simulating those in eye drops showed lower bactericidal activities and shorter PAEs against fluoroquinolone-resistant strains than against fluoroquinolone-sensitive strains.

Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a flat elevated tumor with central ulceration in the second portion of the duodenum. Subsequent duodenoscopy for a more detailed examination showed that the tumor had originated in the minor duodenal papilla.

This study was undertaken to assess the feasibility of docetaxel in combination with prednisolone in Japanese patients with HRPC.
Methods: Patients aged 50-74 years with measurable metastatic HRPC were included in this non-comparative Phase II study.
Purpose: In 2001, Japan launched a nationwide subsidy program for influenza immunization of the elderly, whose implementation was devolved to municipalities. Rapid appraisal of the financial impact and utilisation are helpful for evaluating public programs. The government appraised uptake rate with a resource-consuming complete survey.

The comet assay is considered to be a sensitive and rapid method for DNA strand break detection in individual cells, and tail length and tail moment are used as the comet parameters. Concerning the basal characteristics, the 46 control subjects had higher rates of smoking and coffee-drinking habits and lower hemoglobin than the 121 nurses (p<0.

Cost-effectiveness analysis comparing prevalent National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline/St Gallen recommendation-guided treatment with the assay-guided treatment is carried out with budget impact estimation in the context of Japan's health care system. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios are estimated as 2,997,495 yen/QALY (26,065 US$/QALY) in the comparison between NCCN guided-treatment vs.

In order to evaluate the efficiency of the strategy taken in this current program which provides 71% subsidy for all and explore alternative strategies, authors carried out a cost-effectiveness analysis.
