On April 28, 2004, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1540. It requires countries to develop and enforce legal and regulatory measures against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and their means of delivery, with a focus on the spread to nonstate actors. To date, compliance with UNSCR 1540 has been challenging.

Here, we have studied the radical anions of a series of linear and cyclic butadiyne-linked porphyrin oligomers using CW-EPR, H Mims ENDOR and NIR/MIR spectroelectrochemistry together with DFT calculations and multiscale molecular modeling. Low-temperature hyperfine EPR spectroscopy and optical data show that polarons are delocalized nonuniformly over about four porphyrins with most of the spin density on just two units even in the cyclic structures, in which all porphyrin sites are identical.

Dysfunction of mitochondria is associated with numerous physiological consequences and drives various diseases, and is one of twelve biological hallmarks of aging, linked to aging pathology. There are many distinct changes that occur to the mitochondria during aging including changes in mitochondrial morphology, which can be used as a robust and simple readout of mitochondrial quality and function.

Consisting of largely coastal and rural communities, the populations of Norfolk and Suffolk, UK, have elevated burdens of mental health problems, areas with high levels of deprivation and an increasing migrant population. However, these communities are underserved by research and areas with the greatest mental health needs are not represented or engaged in research.

While H-H J-couplings are the cornerstone of all spectral assignment methods in solution-state NMR, they are yet to be observed in solids. Here we observe H-H J-couplings in plastic crystals of (1S)-(-)-camphor in solid-state NMR at magic angle spinning (MAS) rates of 100 kHz and above. This is enabled in this special case because the intrinsic coherence lifetimes at fast MAS rates become longer than the inverse of the H-H J couplings.

As part of a FrameWorks-informed project to test framing approaches to improve public understanding and support for evidence-based alcohol policies in the UK, this research aimed to (i) summarise relevant evidence; (ii) compare how public understanding of alcohol harms differs from those of academic and charity experts; and (iii) develop novel framing approaches.
Methods: (1) a literature review including systematic, scoping and targeted components to understand previous evidence on effective framing from behaviour change, UK alcohol policy and FrameWorks literatures; (2) comparison of public views of alcohol harms and policies from four focus groups (n = 20) with those of public health experts; (3) an iterative process involving workshops and stakeholder consultation to develop 12 novel framing approaches.
Purpose: Furosemide is the most commonly used diuretic in intensive care units (ICU). We aimed to evaluate the physiological effects of adjunctive acetazolamide with furosemide on diuresis and the prevention of potential furosemide-induced metabolic alkalosis.
Materials And Methods: We performed a two-center, pilot, open-label, randomized trial.
Rationalizing the impact of oxidation states of Au-based complexes on function require synthetic strategies that allow for conserved molecular formula in Au(I) and their Au(III) counterparts. Oftentimes achieving Au(I) and Au(III) coordination complexes with the same ligand system is challenging due to the reactivity and stability of the starting Au(I) or Au(III) starting materials. Thus, attempts to study the impact of oxidation state on biological function has been elusive.

This preliminary study reports the initial experience in implementing quantitative breast DCE-MRI in multi-center (MC) and multi-vendor platform (MP) settings to predict NAC response. MRI data, including B mapping, variable flip angle (VFA) measurements of native tissue R (R), and DCE-MRI, were acquired during NAC at three sites using 3T systems with Siemens, Philips, and GE platforms, respectively.

Yet, large-scale prospective studies of cost-effective scalable antibody measures as predictors of infection under real-world conditions are limited. We examined whether antibody levels measured using high-throughput variant-specific SARS-CoV-2 anti-spike immunoglobulin G (IgG) and ACE2-neutralization assays correlate with cell-based neutralizing antibody (NAb) measurements, and whether they can serve as a reasonable CoP from SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of early failure criteria for participants in randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on overall trial conclusions.
Method: We simulated 10,000 hypothetical RCTs with 2 treatments, 1 linear improvement and 1 with increasing rate of improvement and 6 follow-up visits. Each RCT had 400 participants, with the same baseline stereoacuity distribution.
Background: Great Britain has been experiencing a cost-of-living crisis since late 2021, with the cost of everyday essentials rising more quickly than the average household income. This study provides up-to-date information on levels of subjective and objective financial hardship during this crisis, differences across population subgroups, and associations with psychological distress.
Methods: We used data from a representative cross-sectional survey of adults (≥16 y) in Great Britain (n = 7,027) conducted January-March 2023.
Background: Return-to-work is a major goal achieved by fewer than 50% stroke survivors. Evidence on how to support return-to-work is lacking.
Aims: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Early Stroke Specialist Vocational Rehabilitation (ESSVR) plus usual care (UC) (i.

Rural pediatric clinicians face barriers to accessing health care simulation, an educational standard to prepare for high-acuity, low-occurrence (HALO) events. Simulation is typically accessible in urban academic medical centers, as it is resource-intensive owing to the necessary equipment and expertise needed to implement training. Rural hospitals face geographic and financial barriers to providing simulation training.

However, tumor visibility is constrained due to the projection of patient's anatomy onto a 2D plane, potentially leading to substantial setup errors. In treatment room with 3D-OBI such as cone beam CT (CBCT), the field of view (FOV) of CBCT is limited with unnecessarily high imaging dose.

This phenomenon forms the basis for the field of nanofluidics, which is dedicated to studying the transport of fluids within and around objects with dimensions of less than 100 nm. Despite the increasing importance of nanofluidics for a wide range of chemical and biochemical applications, the ability to study this field in undergraduate laboratories remains limited due to challenges associated with producing suitable nanoscale objects.

Here, we investigate within-culture patterns and variations in where, why and how people drink, answering the research question: how does engagement in drinking practices vary by sex, age and household income?
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis examining the societal distribution (by age, sex, household income) of 12 drinking practices: four off-trade practices (in-home consumption; e.g.
This document assesses the appropriateness of various imaging studies for acute penetrating trauma to the torso. Penetrating trauma most commonly occurs from gunshots and stabbings, although any object can impale the patient. Anatomic location, type of penetrating trauma, and hemodynamic status are among the many important factors when deciding upon if, what, and when imaging is needed to further evaluate the patient.
