Co-morbid cannabis use disorder and chronotype are associated with mood symptom onset in people with bipolar disorder.

Comorbid cannabis use disorder (CUD) is disproportionately high in people with bipolar disorder (BD) and has been associated with worsening of BD symptoms. However, many people with BD report regularly using cannabis to ameliorate symptoms, including sleep disturbances. Sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances are hallmark features of BD that often precede the onset of mood symptoms.

Acceleration is the key to drag reduction in turbulent flow.

A turbulent pipe flow experiment was conducted where the surface of the pipe was oscillated azimuthally over a wide range of frequencies, amplitudes, and Reynolds numbers. The drag was reduced by as much as 35%. Past work has suggested that the drag reduction scales with the velocity amplitude of the motion, its period, and/or the Reynolds number.

2024 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughan Award: Nonsurgical Treatment of Symptomatic, Atraumatic Full-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears-a Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study With 10-Year Follow-Up.

The Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network Shoulder Group conducted a prospective cohort study of 452 patients with symptomatic atraumatic rotator cuff tears treated with a physical therapy program to determine the predictors of failure of nonsurgical treatment, to provide insight into indications for surgery. After 10 years, we found the following: (1) Physical therapy was effective for over 70% of patients. (2) PROMs showed statistical and clinical improvement after 12 weeks of therapy and did not decline over 10 years.

"Striving Toward Equity for All": Social Work Faculty and Staff Define Social Justice.

Purpose: The guiding documents of the social work profession establish social justice as central to the discipline and practice of social work, yet there is little consensus on the meaning of the term. Therefore, the goal of this study was to examine how faculty and staff in one school of social work defined social justice.

Methods: Data for this study were drawn from a school climate survey distributed within one school of social work with an explicitly stated commitment to social justice.

The Predictors of Surgery for Symptomatic, Atraumatic Full-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears Change Over Time: Ten-Year Outcomes of the MOON Shoulder Prospective Cohort.

Background: A prospective cohort study was conducted to assess the predictors of failure of nonoperative treatment, defined as the patient undergoing surgery for symptomatic, atraumatic full-thickness rotator cuff tears. We present the 10-year follow-up data of this population to determine if predictors for surgery change over time, and secondarily we report the outcomes of the cohort.

Methods: At the time of enrollment, demographic, symptom, rotator cuff anatomy, and patient-reported outcome data were collected in patients with symptomatic, atraumatic full-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Comparative assessment of the diagnostic performances of particle-based multianalyte technology and commercial ELISA for antiphospholipid autoantibody testing.

Background: Diagnosing Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) relies heavily on laboratory findings, particularly the detection of specific antibodies like lupus anticoagulant (LA), IgG and/or IgM anti-cardiolipin (aCL), and IgG and/or IgM anti-β2 glycoprotein 1 (aB2GP1). Although ELISA is widely used in the US for this purpose, standardization between different assay methodologies remains challenging, leading to significant variability across laboratories. Particle-based multi-analyte technology (PMAT) offers a streamlined one-step detection for all six antiphospholipid (aPL) autoantibodies, covering aCL and aB2GP1 of IgA, IgG, and IgM isotypes.

The Impact of Cannabis Use on Cognition in People with HIV: Evidence of Function-Dependent Effects and Mechanisms from Clinical and Preclinical Studies.

Purpose Of Review: Cannabis may have beneficial anti-inflammatory effects in people with HIV (PWH); however, given this population's high burden of persisting neurocognitive impairment (NCI), clinicians are concerned they may be particularly vulnerable to the deleterious effects of cannabis on cognition. Here, we present a systematic scoping review of clinical and preclinical studies evaluating the effects of cannabinoid exposure on cognition in HIV.

Recent Findings: Results revealed little evidence to support a harmful impact of cannabis use on cognition in HIV, with few eligible preclinical data existing.

What do recently housed young people imagine for the future of third places? Using game-based inquiry to (re)imagine affirming, youth-centered third places.

Third places-public and community settings like parks and libraries-are theorized to serve as sources of social connection, community, and play. Yet, young people who hold marginalized identities, such as those experiencing homelessness and housing instability, often endure discrimination in third place settings. This study used game-based inquiry to partner with recently housed young people who have experienced chronic housing instability (N = 21) to understand how they would (re)imagine future third places.

Background: Widespread use of antibiotics disrupts the balance in the microbial world and promotes development and spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Educational initiatives are important as part of strategies to mitigate antibiotic resistance. The Alforja Educativa is an innovative educational program developed in Ecuador with the aim to teach schoolchildren about antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance.

Complete fatty replacement of lytic bone metastases following treatment. A case report, assessing response to treatment of bone metastases on CT imaging.

Bone is the most common site for breast cancer metastases, occurring in up to 70% of patients, who have metastatic disease. The treatment of advanced breast cancer with bony metastases has significant health and economic implications including the costs of imaging, systemic therapy, and hospital admission. Therefore, accurate interpretation of response to therapy in bone metastases on post-treatment computed tomography (CT) imaging is an essential role of the radiologist in daily practice.

How mutual aid proliferation developed solidarity and sense of collective responsibility in the early months of COVID-19.

Although mutual aid organizing is a social movement practice long sustained by queer/trans people, immigrants, people of color, and disability communities, among other communities pushed to the margins of society, with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequent government failures in addressing unmet needs, mutual aid proliferated into new (and more socially privileged) communities in the United States and across the world. Amidst this landscape of extraordinary and unique crises, our study sought to understand the benefits experienced by those engaged in mutual aid in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state of Colorado, United States. Our team conducted semistructured individual interviews with 25 individuals participating in mutual aid through groups organized on social media or through intentional communities.

Highlighting Trans Joy: A Call to Practitioners, Researchers, and Educators.

This practice note is a call to practitioners, researchers, and educators to reconsider how they approach work with trans and nonbinary communities. Drawing on previous work done by Tuck, and shuster and Westbrook, I encourage readers to move from a deficit-based lens to a lens where joy is part of the narrative, an aspect of trans and nonbinary lives that is often missing from much of the research on trans communities. Furthermore, I urge readers to move beyond seeing trans and nonbinary communities as primarily social and political issues to be addressed and to see and embrace the complex and nuanced humanity and lived experiences of trans and nonbinary people.

"How Do I Exist in This Body…That's Outside of the Norm?" Trans and Nonbinary Experiences of Conformity, Coping, and Connection in Atypical Anorexia.

Addressing eating disorders (EDs) within trans and nonbinary (TNB) populations is a growing concern, as TNB individuals are two to four times more likely to experience EDs than cisgender women. This study explored the lived experiences of TNB people with atypical anorexia by examining how gender identity impacted experiences of ED illness and (potential) recovery. Nine TNB adults with atypical anorexia were followed for one year and completed semi-structured, in-depth, longitudinal qualitative interviews at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months.

Radiologist opinions regarding reporting incidental coronary and cardiac calcification on thoracic CT.

Objectives: Coronary and cardiac calcification are frequent incidental findings on non-gated thoracic computed tomography (CT). However, radiologist opinions and practices regarding the reporting of incidental calcification are poorly understood.

Methods: UK radiologists were invited to complete this online survey, organised by the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (BSCI).

Thoracic aortic aneurysm repair using the elephant trunk technique and associated complications.

The frozen elephant trunk stent has greatly facilitated the repair of elective and emergency arch and proximal descending thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections. As one of the few tertiary hospitals that routinely inserts and images the floating and frozen elephant trunk grafts, we aim to provide an up-to-date illustration of the contrasting methods of elephant trunk thoracic aortic aneurysm repair through a computed tomography (CT) review and detail the common radiological interpretation pitfalls in addition to the most significant associated complications.

Contouring techniques in cardiac magnetic resonance assessment of right ventricular volumes in repaired tetralogy of fallot.

Introduction: Right ventricular size and function on cardiac MRI provides thresholds for referral for pulmonary valve intervention in repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (RTOF). However, different contouring techniques are available to calculate right ventricular volumes and ejection fraction. It is not known whether these contouring techniques impact on threshold triggers for intervention.

Antibiotic resistance is a naturally occurring phenomenon, but the misuse and overuse of antibiotics is accelerating the process. This study aimed to quantify and compare antibiotic use before, during, and after seeking outpatient care for acute febrile illness in Ujjain, India. Data were collected through interviews with patients/patient attendants.

"We Are Doing the Absolute Most That We Can, and No One Is Listening": Barriers and Facilitators to Health Literacy within Transgender and Nonbinary Communities.

Transgender and nonbinary (TNB) individuals face disparities in nearly every aspect of health. One factor associated with poor health outcomes in other marginalized populations is health literacy, yet no identified studies examine health literacy in TNB samples. Moreover, most health literacy frameworks focus primarily on the capacities of individual patients to understand and use healthcare information, with little attention given to provider literacy and environmental factors.

CT of transposition of the great arteries in adults.

Transposition of the great arteries is one of the most common cyanotic congenital heart diseases. It is characterised by an abnormal connection of the ventricles and great arteries, so that the aorta arises from the morphological right ventricle and the pulmonary artery arises from the morphological left ventricle. Historically, as with many congenital heart diseases, patients with transposition of the great arteries had poor life expectancy.

Exploring the Experiences of Transgender and Gender Diverse Adults in Accessing a Trans Knowledgeable Primary Care Physician.

Transgender and gender diverse individuals face a variety of barriers when attempting to access healthcare, from discrimination to lack of access to lack of knowledgeable providers. Using data from the 2015 United States Trans Survey ( = 27,715), this study looks at the differences within the TGD population regarding having seen a doctor in the past year, having a primary care provider, and having a primary care provider who is knowledgeable about trans health. Logistic regressions indicate that even within an all transgender and gender diverse sample, a variety of identities and experiences are related to increased or decreased likelihood of each of these outcomes, with significant differences across gender, race/ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability status, educational attainment, annual income, disability status, religiosity, military status, overall health, housing status, and insurance coverage.

An energy-efficient pathway to turbulent drag reduction.

Simulations and experiments at low Reynolds numbers have suggested that skin-friction drag generated by turbulent fluid flow over a surface can be decreased by oscillatory motion in the surface, with the amount of drag reduction predicted to decline with increasing Reynolds number. Here, we report direct measurements of substantial drag reduction achieved by using spanwise surface oscillations at high friction Reynolds numbers ([Formula: see text]) up to 12,800. The drag reduction occurs via two distinct physical pathways.

The feeding of Co lactate (Co), an essential oil blend (EO; oregano), or a combination of Co and EO (EOC) may improve nutrient digestion of corn silage-based rations. In four separate studies, Co, EO, or EOC was fed at 0, 4, and 7 g/days to nine rumen fistulated rams arranged in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design. The fourth study evaluated the carrier at 0, 4, and 7 g/day.
