Facile Synthesis of Optically Active and Magnetic Nanoparticles Carrying Helical Poly(phenyl isocyanide) Arms and Their Application in Enantioselective Crystallization.

In this paper, the facile synthesis of hybrid Fe O magnetic nanoparticles carrying helical poly(phenyl isocyanide) (PPI) arms via both "grafting from" and "grafting onto" strategies is reported. First, alkyne-Pd(II) catalysts are anchored onto the surface of the Fe O magnetic nanoparticle, which promote the polymerization of enantiopure phenyl isocyanide, affording the expected hybrid magnetic nanoparticle with Fe O in core and helical PPI as arms. The nanoparticle also exhibits highly optical activity due to the excess of one-handed helicity of the PPI arms.

Visual electrochemiluminescence ratiometry on bipolar electrode for bioanalysis.

In this work, we developed a visual ECL ratiometry on a closed bipolar electrode (BPE) for the detection of prostate specific antigen (PSA), prostate cancer biomarker. High efficient CdTe QDs was synthesized which emitted visualized red light at BPE cathode. Integrating with the anodic ECL emitters, luminol, visual emission of red-blue ratiometric ECL was achieved in BPE array chips.

Risk Factors and Preventions of Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women. The development of breast cancer is a multi-step process involving multiple cell types, and its prevention remains challenging in the world. Early diagnosis of breast cancer is one of the best approaches to prevent this disease.

The effect of DNA-PKcs gene silencing on proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis, and in vivo tumorigenicity of human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells.

The purpose of this study was to explore the role by which the DNA-dependent protein kinase complex catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs) influences osteosarcoma MG-63 cell apoptosis, proliferation, migration and invasion. Osteosarcoma tissues and adjacent normal tissues were obtained from 57 osteosarcoma patients. Human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells were assigned into designated groups including the blank, siRNA-negative control (NC) and siRNA-DNA-PKcs groups.

Characterization of oligotrophic AnAOB culture: morphological, physiological, and ecological features.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process is regarded as a promising nitrogen removal technology to treat ammonium wastewaters in a wide concentration range. Oligotrophic anaerobic ammonia oxidation bacteria (O-AnAOB) culture has been successfully achieved from a new anammox system to treat superlow ammonium concentration wastewaters. In this work, the O-AnAOB culture was compared with the eutrophic AnAOB (E-AnAOB) culture to reveal its physiological, morphological, and ecological features.

Determination of the Spin and Parity of the Z_{c}(3900).

The spin and parity of the Z_{c}(3900)^{±} state are determined to be J^{P}=1^{+} with a statistical significance larger than 7σ over other quantum numbers in a partial wave analysis of the process e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ. We use a data sample of 1.92  fb^{-1} accumulated at sqrt[s]=4.

[Protective effects of LBP on cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in mice and mechanism of inhibiting NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β].

To observe the protective effects of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) on cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in mice and explore its mechanism. Common carotid artery thread was used to cause middle cerebral artery ischemia, and the thread was taken out after 2 h ischemia to achieve cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in mice. Therefore, the transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) models were established to observe the effects of LBP (25,50, 100 mg•kg⁻¹) on neurological outcome, infarct size and water contents.

Is definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy effective for locally advanced head and neck cancer in the elderly aged ≥ 75 years: A single-institute, retrospective, cohort study.

Background: Definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the standard treatment for locally advanced head and neck cancer (HNC). However, for very elderly patients, the comparison of benefit/risk between definitive radiotherapy (RT) with and without systemic chemotherapy was equivocal.

Patients And Methods: The study was a single-institute, retrospective, cohort study.

Mapping the clinical outcomes and genetic evolution of Ebola virus in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone was the most severely affected country in Western Africa during the 2013-2016 outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD). Previous genome surveillance studies have revealed the origin, diversity, and evolutionary dynamics of the Ebola virus (EBOV); however, the information regarding EBOV sequences is insufficient, especially the clinical outcomes, given that the correlation between the clinical outcomes and the genetic evolution of EBOV is still not clear. Here, we collected and curated a comprehensive data set that includes 514 EBOV genome sequences from patients with confirmed EVD (including 60 sequences not previously studied), >87.

Electrophysiological and behavioral evidence reveals the effects of trait anxiety on contingent attentional capture.

Few studies have investigated the effects of anxiety on contingent attentional capture. The present study examined contingent attentional capture in trait anxiety by applying a rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) paradigm during electroencephalographic recording. Overall, the behavioral and electrophysiological results showed a larger capture effect when a distractor was the same color as the target compared to when the distractor was not of the target color.

VHL deficiency augments anthracycline sensitivity of clear cell renal cell carcinomas by down-regulating ALDH2.

The von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) is deficient in ∼70% of clear-cell renal cell carcinomas (ccRCC), which contributes to the carcinogenesis and drug resistance of ccRCC. Here we show that VHL-deficient ccRCC cells present enhanced cytotoxicity of anthracyclines in a hypoxia-inducible factor-independent manner. By subtractive proteomic analysis coupling with RNAi or overexpression verification, aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) is found to be transcriptionally regulated by VHL and contributes to enhanced anthracyclines cytotoxicity in ccRCC cells.

Observation of ψ(3686)→e^{+}e^{-}χ_{cJ} and χ_{cJ}→e^{+}e^{-}J/ψ.

Using 4.479×10^{8}  ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we search for the decays ψ(3686)→e^{+}e^{-}χ_{cJ} and χ_{cJ}→e^{+}e^{-}J/ψ, where J=0, 1, 2. The decays ψ(3686)→e^{+}e^{-}χ_{cJ} and χ_{cJ}→e^{+}e^{-}J/ψ are observed for the first time.

Effectiveness of incorporating cetuximab into docetaxel/cisplatin/fluorouracil induction chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy for inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity: A phase II study.

Background: Inoperable oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a highly invasive disease associated with the extensive destruction of locoregional tissues and a dismal prognosis. Management strategies for these patients are limited.

Methods: This study was a single arm, prospective, open-label phase II trial.

We report the first direct measurement of decays of the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon involving the neutron. The analysis is performed using 567  pb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected at sqrt[s]=4.599  GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider.

Evidence of Two Resonant Structures in e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}h_{c}.

The cross sections of e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}h_{c} at center-of-mass energies from 3.896 to 4.600 GeV are measured using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider.

Precise Measurement of the e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ Cross Section at Center-of-Mass Energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV.

The cross section for the process e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9  fb^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring.

[Polymorphism analysis of 20 autosomal short-tandem repeat loci in southern Chinese Han population].

Objective: To evaluate the value of PowerPlex21 System (Promega) and study the genetic polymorphism of its 20 short-tandem repeat (STR) loci in southern Chinese Han population.

Methods: We conducted genotyping experiments using PowerPlex21 System on 20 autosomal STR loci (D3S1358, D1S1656, D6S1043, D13S317, Penta E, D16S539, D18S51, D2S1338, CSF1PO, Penta D, TH01, vWA, D21S11, D7S820, D5S818, TPOX, D8S1179, D12S391, D19S433 and FGA) in 2367 unrelated Chinese Han individuals living in South China. The allele frequencies and parameters commonly used in forensic science were statistically analyzed in these individuals and compared with the reported data of other populations.

Amplitude Analysis of the Decays η^{'}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η^{'}→π^{0}π^{0}π^{0}.

Based on a sample of 1.31×10^{9}  J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis of the isospin-violating decays η^{'}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η^{'}→π^{0}π^{0}π^{0} is performed. A significant P-wave contribution from η^{'}→ρ^{±}π^{∓} is observed for the first time in η^{'}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}.

Response and acquired resistance to crizotinib in Chinese patients with lung adenocarcinomas harboring MET Exon 14 splicing alternations.

Approximately 10% of lung adenocarcinomas harbor aberrations that are targetable using the approved multitargeted TKI crizotinib. MET exon 14 skipping mutation predicts for response to crizotinib in human lung adenocarcinomas. However, a substantial part of patients still has no sufficient tissue to perform genomic analysis.

Measurement of Singly Cabibbo Suppressed Decays Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-} and Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{+}K^{-}.

Using 567  pb^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=4.599  GeV, near the Λ_{c}^{+}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-} threshold, we study the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-} and Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{+}K^{-}. By normalizing with respect to the Cabibbo-favored decay Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}, we obtain ratios of branching fractions: [B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pπ^{+}π^{-})/B(Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+})]=(6.

Effect of CyberKnife stereotactic body radiation therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma on hepatic toxicity.

Objective: To evaluate the safety of CyberKnife stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and identify the treatment-related risk factors of hepatic toxicity.

Materials And Methods: One hundred and four HCC patients treated with CyberKnife SBRT were included in this study between August 2009 and December 2012. The average dose of prescribed radiation was 42.

Clinical and Virological Characteristics of Ebola Virus Disease Patients Treated With Favipiravir (T-705)-Sierra Leone, 2014.

Background:  During 2014-2015, an outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) swept across parts of West Africa. No approved antiviral drugs are available for Ebola treatment currently.

Methods:  A retrospective clinical case series was performed for EVD patients in Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital.

Since 2013, West Africa has encountered the largest Ebola virus (EBOV) disease outbreak on record, and Sierra Leone is the worst-affected country, with nearly half of the infections. By means of next-generation sequencing and phylogeographic analysis, the epidemiology and transmission of EBOV have been well elucidated. However, the intra-host dynamics that mainly reflect viral-host interactions still need to be studied.
