The pressure induced reactivity of carbon monoxide was investigated in a wide temperature range (100-400 K) completely avoiding any irradiation of the sample with visible or higher frequency light. FTIR spectroscopy was employed to monitor the reaction and infrared sensors for measuring the pressure. With this approach we have been able to separate the effects of the three variables (P, T and hnu) that establish the conditions for the occurrence of the chemical reaction.

We produced mixtures of N2-O2 with different concentrations and performed low-temperature Raman studies at ambient and high pressures. From spectra in vibron and phonon regions, we determined band frequency, bandwidth, and band intensity as a function of temperature, pressure, and concentration. We determined the vibron Raman cross-sections and deduced the true concentrations of mixtures from vibron Raman band intensities.

5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and its hexyl ester (ALA-H) are bioorganic molecules, now used as drugs in the study and clinical application of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Their infrared spectra were reported in first time here. The spectral characteristic was found well correlated to their structure feature.

An optical cell suitable for Raman studies and for absorption studies of gases, liquids, and solids is described. The cell has been used at temperatures down to 4.2 K and pressures up to 10 kilobars.
