We present the theory and implementation of a fully variational wave function-density functional theory (DFT) hybrid model, which is applicable to many cases of strong correlation. We denote this model as the multiconfigurational self-consistent on-top pair-density functional theory (MC-srPDFT) model. We have previously shown how the multiconfigurational short-range DFT (MC-srDFT) hybrid model can describe many multiconfigurational cases of any spin symmetry and also state-specific calculations on excited states [Hedegård et al.

We offer a straightforward quantitative analysis of the temporal and spatial patterns of cell division events showing a statistically significant difference in the frequency of mitotic events and spatial separation of mitotic event clusters between intact and regenerating roots.

The excitation energies are investigated for 132 singlet states and 71 triplet states across 28 medium-sized organic molecules. The results show that overall SOPPA-srPBE always performs better than PBE and that SOPPA-srPBE performs better than SOPPA for singlet states, but slightly worse than SOPPA for triplet states when CC3 results are the reference values.

An EFW <3rd %ile for GA is considered severe FGR (sFGR). It remains unknown if fetuses with isolated AC <3rd %ile should be considered sFGR.

Granger causality analysis can be used to determine the existence of a hierarchical fibrillation mechanism that is more amenable to ablation treatment in cardiac time-series data. Conventional Granger causality based on linear predictability may fail if the assumption is not met or given sparsely sampled, high-dimensional data.

It is poorly understood if administration of potassium supplements and mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRA) aimed at increasing p-K also increases intracellular potassium.
Methods: Adults aged≥18 years with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) were randomized (1:1) to a control group or to an intervention that included guidance on potassium rich diets, potassium supplements, and MRA to increase p-K to target levels of 4.
The emergence of economic blocks and the level of influence countries exert on each other are fundamental features of the 21st century globally interconnected economy. However, limited quantitative research exists measuring the level of influence among countries and quantitatively determining economic blocks. This research develops a method to quantify the mutual influence of countries by making use of relatively standard procedures for complex networks in order to assemble non-trivial networks of influences and to identify symbiotic relationships.

As a special case, this implementation also includes Hartree-Fock srDFT (HF-srDFT). Choosing a complete-active space (CAS) wave function as the multiconfigurational parameterization of the wave function, we investigate how well CAS-srDFT reproduces experimental trends of nuclear shielding constants compared to DFT and complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF).

The format of the paper is that of a roundtable discussion, in which the participants express and exchange views on DFT in the form of 302 individual contributions, formulated as responses to a preset list of 26 questions. Supported by a bibliography of 777 entries, the paper represents a broad snapshot of DFT, anno 2022.

Both approaches, dubbed amfX2C and e(xtended)amfX2C, allow us to uniquely tailor PCE corrections to mean-field models, viz. Hartree-Fock or Kohn-Sham DFT, in the latter case also avoiding the need for a point-wise calculation of exchange-correlation PCE corrections.

Differences between linear-response (LR) and state-specific (SS) solvent shifts are analyzed by assessing the contributions of different terms in the solvent potential. This comparison shows that the differences are not only due to the intrinsically different response of LR and SS excitation energies to the polarizability of the environment but also due to a different response to the static part of the environment potential.

Building towards a deeper understanding of these different alterations of normal consciousness, here we compare the changes in neural dynamics induced by LSD and ketamine (in healthy volunteers) against those associated with schizophrenia, as observed in resting-state M/EEG recordings. While both conditions exhibit increased neural signal diversity, our findings reveal that this is accompanied by an increased transfer entropy from the front to the back of the brain in schizophrenia, versus an overall reduction under the two drugs.

Here we show that computation of complex Boolean functions arises spontaneously in threshold networks as a function of connectivity and antagonism (inhibition), computed by logic automata (motifs) in the form of computational cascades. We explain the emergent inverse relationship between the computational complexity of the motifs and their rank-ordering by function probabilities due to motifs, and its relationship to symmetry in function space.

Emergence is a profound subject that straddles many scientific disciplines, including the formation of galaxies and how consciousness arises from the collective activity of neurons. Despite the broad interest that exists on this concept, the study of emergence has suffered from a lack of formalisms that could be used to guide discussions and advance theories. Here, we summarize, elaborate on, and extend a recent formal theory of causal emergence based on information decomposition, which is quantifiable and amenable to empirical testing.

The geminal wave functions are optimized using a restricted-step second-order algorithm suitable for handling many geminals, and the linear-response equations are solved in an efficient way using a direct iterative approach. The wave function optimization algorithm features an original scheme to create initial orbitals for the geminal functions in a black-box fashion.

The goal of this study was to assess the risk of effort-reward imbalance including overcommitment among officers and ratings on merchant vessels during their assignments and to evaluate lifestyle factors of seafarers as well as the health-promoting conditions on board.
Methods: A study sample of 308 male seafarers was examined during a total of 20 sea voyages on German container ships (participation rate 91.
The multi-configurational short-range (sr) density functional theory has been extended to the calculation of indirect spin-spin coupling constants (SSCCs) for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The performance of the new method is compared to Kohn-Sham density functional theory and the ab initio complete active space self-consistent field for a selected set of molecules with good reference values. Two density functionals have been considered, the local density approximation srLDA and srPBE from the GGA class of functionals.
