Of the compounds studied, those containing naphthalene () and perylene () spacers, respectively, have large surface areas (~530 m g). Climate change has the potential to disrupt species interactions across global ecosystems. Ectotherm-endotherm interactions may be especially prone to this risk due to the possible mismatch between the species in physiological response and performance. However, few studies have examined how changing temperatures might differentially impact species' niches or available suitable habitat when they have very different modes of thermoregulation.

Background: The active transport of molecules into the brain from blood is regulated by receptors, transporters, and other cell surface proteins that are present on the luminal surface of endothelial cells at the blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, proteomic profiling of proteins present on the luminal endothelial cell surface of the BBB has proven challenging due to difficulty in labelling these proteins in a way that allows efficient purification of these relatively low abundance cell surface proteins.

We conducted a qualitative longitudinal study to investigate the contextual and dynamic factors shaping vaccine delivery and uptake during a pilot introduction in western Kenya.

There are limited data on outcomes from SARS-CoV-2 infection shortly before cellular therapy and uncertainty whether to delay therapy.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection within 90 days before HCT or CAR-T-cell therapy between January 2020 and November 2022.

Background: Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) were crucial in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, although uncertainties about their effectiveness remain. This work aimed to better understand the evidence generated during the pandemic on the effectiveness of NPIs implemented in the UK.

Methods: We conducted a rapid mapping review (search date: 1 March 2023) to identify primary studies reporting on the effectiveness of NPIs to reduce COVID-19 transmission.

Three-dimensional analysis of biplanar glenoid deformities: what are they and can they be virtually reconstructed with anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty implants?

Background: Descriptions of glenoid deformities in glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GHOA) have focused on the axial plane. Less is known regarding arthritic glenoids with higher amounts of superior inclination and little evidence exists to guide management of inclination or combined version-inclination deformity when performing anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA). We hypothesized that biplanar deformities (BD) would be present in a higher proportion of GHOA patients than previously appreciated, and these deformities would be difficult to adequately reconstruct with contemporary aTSA implants.

Objectives: Diabetes mellitus is a complex heterogenous metabolic disease that significantly affects the world population. Although many treatments exist, including medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP) receptor agonist, there is growing interest in finding alternative methods to noninvasively treat this disease. It has been previously shown that low-intensity ultrasound stimulation of pancreatic β-cells in mice can elicit insulin secretion as a potential treatment for this disease.

Rationale And Objectives: Digital flashcards are an increasingly popular study method for medical students today. The purpose of this study is to assess students' opinions on digital flashcards and to evaluate the need for radiology-focused digital flashcards. We created the first official Radiology-Pathology (Rad-Path) Correlation course digital flashcard deck sponsored by the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER), and evaluated its effectiveness in increasing medical students' confidence levels of understanding Rad-Path concepts.

The impact of the cost-of-living crisis on population health in the UK: rapid evidence review.

Background: In the UK, unique and unforeseen factors, including COVID-19, Brexit, and Ukraine-Russia war, have resulted in an unprecedented cost of living crisis, creating a second health emergency. We present, one of the first rapid reviews with the aim of examining the impact of this current crisis, at a population level. We reviewed published literature, as well as grey literature, examining a broad range of physical and mental impacts on health in the short, mid, and long term, identifying those most at risk, impacts on system partners, including emergency services and the third sector, as well as mitigation strategies.

Conceptualization, development, and early dissemination of eMPACT: A competency-based career navigation system for translational research professionals.

Introduction: Purposeful training and ongoing career support are necessary to meet the evolving and expanding roles of clinical research professionals (CRP). To address the training and employment needs of clinical research coordinators (CRCs), one of the largest sectors of the CRP workforce, we designed, developed, and implemented an online career navigation system, eMPACT (eMpowering Purposeful Advancement of Careers and Training).

Methods: A design-based research method was employed as an overarching approach that frames iterative design, development, and implementation of educational interventions.

Structural optimization of siRNA conjugates for albumin binding achieves effective MCL1-directed cancer therapy.

The high potential of siRNAs to silence oncogenic drivers remains largely untapped due to the challenges of tumor cell delivery. Here, divalent lipid-conjugated siRNAs are optimized for in situ binding to albumin to improve pharmacokinetics and tumor delivery. Systematic variation of the siRNA conjugate structure reveals that the location of the linker branching site dictates tendency toward albumin association versus self-assembly, while the lipid hydrophobicity and reversibility of albumin binding also contribute to siRNA intracellular delivery.

Assessing new patient attachment to an integrated, virtual care programme in rural primary care.

Introduction: An estimated 20% of residents of Renfrew County, a rural and underserved community in Ontario, do not have a family physician or alternative primary care provider. Integrated virtual care (IVC) aims to address this crisis by enrolling individuals who are not currently attached to a primary care provider, to a named family physician who works predominantly remotely. The physician is embedded within an existing, local family health team.

Predictors of left ventricular ejection fraction in high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions.

Revascularization completeness after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with improved long-term outcomes. Mechanical circulatory support [intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) or Impella] is used during high-risk PCI (HR-PCI) to enhance peri-procedural safety and achieve more complete revascularization. The relationship between revascularization completeness [post-PCI residual SYNTAX Score (rSS)] and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in HR-PCI has not been established.

Eptesipox virus-associated lesions in naturally infected big brown bats.

Bats have many unique qualities amongst mammals; one of particular importance is their reported tolerance to viruses without developing disease. Here, the authors present evidence to the contrary by describing and demonstrating viral nucleic acids within lesions from eptesipox virus (EfPV) infection in big brown bats. One hundred and thirty bats submitted for necropsy from Saskatchewan, Canada, between 2017 and 2021 were screened for EfPV by polymerase chain reaction (PCR); 2 had amplifiable poxvirus DNA.
