An outpatient procedure that accurately localizes occult lesions of the breast has been used in 26 patients. A small biopsy is performed using local anesthesia, the excised specimen is xerographed and, if necessary, bread-loafed to identify the involved specimen. This has corroborated the xeromammographic diagnosis of cancer in six patients in whom the lesions were clinically not detectable.

Effects of the environment microflora on rat liver were studied in the present investigation. Rats born under sterile conditions were bred either in a germfree or in a "SPF" environment. At 12 weeks of age the liver of the SPF rats was larger by 20% and contained more DNA than germfree rat liver.

Patulin can be detected in apples and pears which have spontaneously been affected with brown rot after storage at room temperature and at 1 degrees C. Spoilage phenomena of this kind can be caused by Penicillium expansum, but also by P. urticae and Bysssochlamys nivea.

The earlier the injury is repaired or the more quickly the diagnosis of stricture is made and repaired, with antibiotics to prevent infection, the better are the results of the repair. Five types of repair have been utilized: (1) choledochoduodenostomy, (2) duct-to-duct repair, (3) choledochojejunostomy, (4) plastic revision of the stricture, or (5) dilatation of a previous stricture when multiple, previous operative procedures or the difficulty of operative exposure proves too great for adequate repair.

The effect of a simple nucleophile, OH-, approaching the carbonyl carbon center of the beta-lactam ring is monitored by following the charge redistributions that occur in the bicyclic system and in the 3 side chain. A migration of electron density to the ester oxygen of the CH2OAc group is observed with concomitant weakening of the CH2-OAc bond.

This paper describes attempts to synthesize this intermediate by chemical methods. 1) Pentachlorocyclohexene was synthesized by partial additive chlorination of chlorobenzene.

It was found that Silastic rubber T tubes evoked a significant foreign body reaction within the biliary system, producing bile salt precipitation and debris. Alarmingly, in these studies in dogs, Silastic rubber T tubes did not cause sufficient intraperitoneal adhesions around the tube to form an intraperitoneal tract walling off the tube from the general peritoneal cavity.

Trials conducted under controlled environments demonstrated that the delay of bud activity of Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) seedlings occasioned by low temperature of the soil could be eliminated by application of gibberellic acid. Analyses of field-grown plants showed a parallel increase in bud activity, level of gibberellin-like compounds in xylem sap, and soil temperature during February and March.
