We have previously reported that cultured cells from swine aorta possess angiotensin converting enzyme (peptidyldipeptide hydrolase, EC 3.4.15.

Four of the 10 2 1/2-year-olds and 58 of the 64 3 1/2- and 4 1/2-year-olds reached criterion on the bidimensional sorting task. Neither social class nor performance on a verbal comprehension test (the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test) was significantly correlated with success on either unidimensional or bidimensional sorting, although social class and test scores were significantly correlated.

In populations of cultured arterial endothelial and smooth muscle cells grown under the same conditions, we have measured the total activity per cell of 10 enzymes commonly used as "markers" for subcellular organelles: NADH: ferricyanide reductase, NADH:cytochrome c reductase (rotenone insensitive). NADPH:cytochrome c reductase, alpha-glucosidase, 5'-nucleotidase, alkaline phosphodiesterase I, cytochrome oxidase, monoamine oxidase, cathepsin D, and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase. Significant differences between the cell types were found for 7 of the 10 enzymes tested.

Complementary DNA (cDNA)-oligodeoxythmidylate-celluloses were prepared from cDNA copies of polysomal messenger RNA (mRNA) of Novikoff hepatoma, normal rat liver, and regenerating rat liver. cDNA synthesis with reverse transcriptase was approximately 46% with respect to input mRNA with oligodeoxythymidylate-cellulose primer. The cDNA's of normal liver, regenerating liver, and Novikoff hepatomas were used as affinity matrices for hybridization of different mRNA species.

We studied serum cryoprecipitates isolated from three patients with pneumococcal pneumonia by counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CEP) and immunofluorescent technics for the presence of immune complexes. The cryoprecipitates and supernatant serum were tested for pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide (PCP) by CEP at 37 C and 56 C with the appropriate controls.

The kinetics of incorporation of radioactivity into microsomal and myelin cerebrosides indicate the possibility of a precursor-product relationship between cerebrosides of these membranes. The specific radioactivity of myelin cerebrosides was corrected for the deposition of newly formed cerebrosides in myelin.

A study of patients in whom soft-palate pigmentation appeared to be associated with pulmonary disease has been reported. A significant number of these patients had diagnosed or suspected bronchogenic carcinoma. The possibility that this oral finding may be predictive of the presence of lung cancer, or of a high degree of probability of future development of lung cancer, indicates a need for additional investigation.

The gels were stained with Coomassie blue or were used for immunodiffusion. By this method IgG multiple myeloma and IgM Waldenström's macroglobulinemia sera were readily distinguished by electrophoresis alone, whereas IgA and IgD myeloma sera were distinguished by further immunodiffusion against anti-alpha-chain antibody and anti-delta-chain antibody.
