Dangke, a type of fresh soft cheese made of bovine and buffalo milk, is a traditional dairy product used in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is prepared from fresh milk using the conventional method, which easily destroys the quality. This study was conducted to assess whether using lactoperoxidase system and lysozyme as preservative agents could suppress the growth of bacteria in dangke.

One-year surveillance for enteric viruses in raw sewage was conducted in Kansai area, central part of Japan from July 2015 to June 2016. The raw sewage was collected monthly from an inlet polluted pool and was concentrated by polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation. Twelve sewage samples were screened for nineteen kinds of enteric viruses by using RT-PCR method and further analyzed by nucleotide sequencing.

Objectives: Although the functional monomer glycero-phosphate dimethacrylate (GPDM) has since long been used in several dental adhesives and more recently in self-adhesive composite cements and restoratives, its mechanism of chemical adhesion to hydroxyapatite (HAp) is still unknown. We therefore investigated the chemical interaction of GPDM with HAp using diverse chemical analyzers and ultra-structurally characterized the interface of a GPDM-based primer formulation with dentin.

Methods: HAp particles were added to a GPDM solution for various periods, upon which they were thoroughly washed with ethanol and water prior to being air-dried.

Recent advances in tuberculosis diagnostics in resource-limited settings.

Smear-negative and drug-resistant cases of tuberculosis (TB) disease necessitate the development of new diagnostic methods, especially in resource-limited settings. To improve the current TB situations, sensitive and specific TB point-of-care tests (POCTs) should be developed. This review addresses the current status of TB, novel diagnostic methodologies for TB, and the impact of those new diagnostics on TB control in such situations.

Detection and molecular characterization of two rare G8P[14] and G3P[3] rotavirus strains collected from children with acute gastroenteritis in Japan.

This study describes the detection and molecular characterization of two rare G8P[14] and G3P[3] rotavirus strains, which were collected from children with acute gastroenteritis in 2014 in Japan. Among 247 rotaviruses, one G8P[14] (strain 12,597) and one G3P[3] (strain 12,638) rotaviruses were detected. The genotypes of 11 gene segments of these two rotavirus strains (RVA/Human-wt/JPN/12597/2014/G8P[14] and RVA/Human-wt/JPN/12638/2014/G3P[3]) were characterized.

Detection and genetic characterization of enterovirus strains circulating among children with acute gastroenteritis in Japan during 2014-2016.

Of 972 stool samples collected from infants and children with acute gastroenteritis in six different regions (Hokkaido, Tokyo, Shizuoka, Kyoto, Osaka, and Saga) of Japan during 2-year period from July 2014 to June 2016, 63 samples (6.5%) determined to be positive for enterovirus by multiplex RT-PCR were subjected to genotype determination based on the partial VP1 region using the CODEHOP method. Background: Extubation is a more challenging medical practice than intubation, and countermeasures against it are similar to those described in the Difficult Intubation Guidelines, but problems cannot be overcome by completely the same methods. We predicted difficult extubation in a pediatric patient with left recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis and devised an extubation method.

In this study, we examined the frequency of ESBL in stool samples collected from 146 asymptomatic SMID subjects hospitalized in a single institution.

Rubella virus (RuV), which belongs to the family and genus , causes systemic infection in children and young adults and congenital rubella syndrome in developing fetuses if the infection occurs during pregnancy. The mechanisms of fetal infection by RuV are not completely understood. Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) is reported to be a cellular receptor for RuV; however, it is mainly expressed in the central nervous system.
