The rates of decrement of two classes of response (an elicited startle reflex and emitted exploratory behavior) were determined in rats of two different ages (15 and 36 days). The rate of decrement in the startle reflex was not clearly differentiated as a function of age. In contrast, there was no evidence of habituation of exploration in the younger animals, whereas the older rats uniformly showed profound response decrements.

Standard Müller components were used in the first 40 operations; the Aufranc-Turner acetabular component was used with the Müller-femoral component in the final 57 procedures. The trochanter was detached only in exceptional circumstances.

Total lung blood volume was determined from the indocyanine green transit time and the ether bolus technique was used to estimate arterial and venous volumes during forward and retrograde perfusion, respectively. Changes in lung total fluid content were determined from changes in the blood volume of the perfusion system.

A total of 39 subjects was included in this study. The mean CV was largest in patients who had reduced maximum mid-expiratory flow rates (MMF).

Excision repair of UV-damaged Bacillus subtilis transforming DNA has been carried out by a sequential enzyme system in vitro. Incision adjacent to the pyrimidine dimer in the DNA strand by correndonuclease II-initiated excision of the damage by the 5' in equilibrium 3'-directed exonuclease of the Micrococcus luteus DNA polymerase. Reinsertion of nucleotides into the gap in the strand by the DNA polymerase at 10 degrees C terminated in a single-strand break which was sealed by a polynucleotide ligase, thereby repairing the DNA strand.
