Resistant starch (RS), which functions similarly to fermentable dietary fiber, has the potential to reduce the risk of CRC.

Methods: Sixty-one patients receiving ARCR between March 2020 and March 2021 were prospectively enrolled. They were randomly assigned to the peripheral nerve block group (group N, n = 30) or control group (group C, n = 31).
Background: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) not only cause acute, devastating mucocutaneous reactions but also have long-lasting implications on survivors' lives.
Objectives: To quantify the lifetime burden of SJS/TEN.
Methods: The cumulative incidence rate (CIR), life expectancy (LE), loss-of-life expectancy (LoLE) and lifetime healthcare expenditure (HE) for SJS/TEN were estimated over the period from 2008 to 2019 using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan and life tables of vital statistics.
Adolescents and children play an important role in SARS-CoV-2 transmission and epidemiology. MVC-COV1901 is a subunit SARS-CoV-2 vaccine based on stabilized spike protein adjuvanted with CpG 1018 and aluminum hydroxide that has received emergency use approval (EUA) for adults in Taiwan. In this study, we have investigated the safety and immunogenicity of two doses of MVC-COV1901 in adolescents.

Their rapid degradation by proteases, however, represents a major limitation to their therapeutic utility and chemical modifications to native peptides have been employed to mitigate this weakness. Herein, we describe functionalized thiocarbazate scaffolds as precursors of aza-amino acids, that, upon activation, can be integrated in a peptide sequence to generate azapeptides using conventional peptide synthetic methods.

However, few studies have analyzed the environmental factors affecting motorcycle crash injury severity in university neighborhoods. In this multicenter cross-sectional study, we explored the factors that increase the severity of such injuries, especially among young adults.

The COVID-19 has been known to increase the health risks of patients with psoriasis owing to patients' immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and immunosuppressive drug use. A total of 423 psoriasis patients not infected with COVID-19 was recruited from the Department of Dermatology, National Taiwan University Hospital Hsin-Chu Branch, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, and China Medical University Hospital from May 2020 to July 2020.

We postulated that disturbed flow plays important role in modulating phosphoprotein expression profiles to regulate endothelial functions and atherogenesis.
Objective: The goal of this study is to discover novel site-specific phosphorylation alterations induced by disturbed flow in ECs to contribute to atherosclerosis.
Background And Purpose: The exact prevalence of sleep disorders following stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) remains unclear. We aimed to determine the prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing, insomnia, periodic leg movement during sleep, and restless leg syndrome following stroke or TIA in acute, subacute, and chronic phases and examine the moderating effects of patient characteristics (eg, age) and methodological features (eg, study quality) on the prevalence.
Methods: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Background: Data on trends in epidemiological characteristics and economic burden of pemphigus are scarce.
Objective: To describe national trends in pemphigus' incidence, mortality, hospitalizations, and expenditures between 2003 and 2015 in Taiwan.
Methods: This nationwide study used the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database to identify pemphigus patients from 2003 to 2015.
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a heterogeneous entity of B-cell lymphoma. Cell-of-origin (COO) classification of DLBCL is required in routine practice by the World Health Organization classification for biological and therapeutic insights. Genetic subtypes uncovered recently are based on distinct genetic alterations in DLBCL, which are different from the COO subtypes defined by gene expression signatures of normal B cells retained in DLBCL.

Purpose To describe the time course and severity of findings of COVID-19 at chest radiography and correlate these with real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2, nucleic acid. Materials and Methods This is a retrospective study of patients with COVID-19 confirmed by using RT-PCR and chest radiographic examinations who were admitted across four hospitals and evaluated between January and March 2020.

Objective: To determine the predictors of HBV and HCV reactivation in patients with psoriasis receiving biologics.
Methods: This study screened 2060 patients with psoriasis (3562 treatment episodes) who were taking biologics from 2009 to 2018.
Background: Primary coenzyme Q (CoQ) deficiencies are clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of disorders associated with defects of genes involved in the CoQ biosynthesis pathway. -associated CoQ deficiency is very rare and only two cases have been reported.
Methods And Results: We report a patient with encephalo-myo-nephro-cardiopathy, persistent lactic acidosis, and basal ganglia lesions resulting in early infantile death.
Molecular knots represent one of the most extraordinary topological structures in biological polymers. Creating highly knotted nanostructures with well-defined and sophisticated geometries and topologies remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate a general strategy to design and construct highly knotted nucleic acid nanostructures, each weaved from a single-stranded DNA or RNA chain by hierarchical folding in a prescribed order.

Objective: α-Synuclein is critical to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Few studies examined the plasma levels of α-synuclein due to the exceptionally low level of α-synuclein in plasma compared with cerebrospinal fluid. We aimed to investigate plasma α-synuclein in patients with PD of different disease severity.

Memory deficits have been reported in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD); however, few studies have explicitly addressed the nature of these deficits. To obtain a detailed understanding of memory dysfunction in patients with PD, it is of crucial importance to establish whether item-specific memory and gist memory performance are impaired.

This article reports the imaging results of unruptured aneurysms treated electively with the Pipeline Embolization Device for up to 56 months and clinical results for up to 61 months.
Materials And Methods: One hundred nineteen aneurysms in 98 patients from 3 centers admitted between August 2009 and June 2011 were followed at 6-month, 1-year, and 2+-year postprocedural timeframes.
Objective: To determine the risk of osteoporosis in patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) in a large cohort representing 99% of the population of Taiwan.
Methods: Data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database were used to conduct retrospective cohort analyses. The study cohort consisted of 2,073 patients with MG who were 3-fold frequency-matched by age and sex and assigned the same index year as a comparison cohort without MG.
Background: There are few data on the comparative epidemiology and virology of the pandemic 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus and cocirculating seasonal influenza A viruses in community settings.
Methods: We recruited 348 index patients with acute respiratory illness from 14 outpatient clinics in Hong Kong in July and August 2009. We then prospectively followed household members of 99 patients who tested positive for influenza A virus on rapid diagnostic testing.
