A new twofold interpenetrated 3D metal-organic framework (MOF), namely, poly[[μ-aqua-diaqua{μ-2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetato}barium(II)] dihydrate], {[Ba(CHNO)(HO)]·2HO}, (I), has been assembled through a combination of the reaction of 2,2'-[terephthaloylbis(azanediyl)]diacetic acid (TPBA, HL) with barium hydroxide and crystallization at low temperature. In the crystal structure of (I), the nine-coordinated Ba ions are bridged by two μ-aqua ligands and two carboxylate μ-O atoms to form a 1D loop-like Ba-O chain, which, together with the other two coordinated water molecules and μ-carboxylate groups, produces a rod-like secondary building unit (SBU). The resultant 1D polynuclear SBUs are further extended into a 3D MOF via the terephthalamide moiety of the ligand as a spacer.

Adult T cell leukaemia (ATL), caused by infection with human T- lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1), is often complicated by hypercalcemia and osteolytic lesions. Therefore, we studied the communication between patient-derived ATL cells (ATL-PDX) and HTLV-1 immortalized CD4+ T cell lines (HTLV/T) with osteoclasts and their effects on bone mass in mice. Intratibial inoculation of some HTLV/T leads to a profound local decrease in bone mass similar to marrow-replacing ATL-PDX, despite the fact that few HTLV/T cells persisted in the bone.

  • Scientists used special data from a detector to look for rare particle decays of a type called the D_{s}^{+} decay, focusing on how it might change into other particles like kaons or pions.
  • They found strong evidence for the decay D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}ϕ and also discovered a new decay D_{s}^{+}→ρ^{+}ϕ, both involving particles that decay into pairs of electrons.
  • However, they didn't find strong signals for three other types of decays they were looking for, and set limits on how often those changes could happen.

Nuclear quantum effects (NQEs) play a crucial role in hydrogen-bonded systems due to quantum tunneling and proton fluctuation. Our understanding of how NQEs affect microstructures mainly focuses on bulk phases of liquids and solids but remains deficient for water clusters, including their hydrogen nuclei, hydrogen-bonded configurations, and temperature dependence. Here, we conducted ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) and path integral MD simulations to investigate the influence of NQEs on the structural properties of protonated water clusters H(HO) ( = 3, 6, 9, 12).

Currently, carbon-based porous materials for hydrogen (H) storage and carbon dioxide (CO) capture are mostly applied at higher pressures (30-300 bar). However, applications for H storage and CO capture under ambient pressure conditions are significant for the development of portable, household, and miniaturized H energy technologies. This demands a higher standard for the interface microenvironment of adsorbents.

The LHCb Collaboration measures production of the exotic hadron χ_{c1}(3872) in proton-nucleus collisions for the first time. Comparison with the charmonium state ψ(2S) suggests that the exotic χ_{c1}(3872) experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons, and comparison with data from proton-proton collisions indicates that the presence of the nucleus may modify χ_{c1}(3872) production rates. This is the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor of an exotic hadron.
