Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer (OPSCC) represents an OPSCC subgroup with an overall good prognosis with a rising incidence in Western countries. Multiple lines of evidence suggest that HPV-associated tumors are not a homogeneous tumor entity, underlining the need for accurate prognostic biomarkers. In this retrospective, multi-institutional study involving 906 patients from four centers and one database, we developed a deep learning algorithm (OPSCCnet), to analyze standard H&E stains for the calculation of a patient-level score associated with prognosis, comparing it to combined HPV-DNA and p16-status.

Patients (pts) from two prospective trials were analyzed, provided postinduction (PInd) restaging was performed. Pts received three cycles with bortezomib (btz), cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone (dex; VCD) or btz, lenalidomide (len), and dex (VRd) or len, adriamycin, and dex (RAD).

Purpose: Digital pathology diagnostics are often based on subjective qualitative measures. A murine model of early-phase pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma provides a controlled environment with a priori knowledge of the genetic mutation and stage of the disease. Use of this model enables the application of supervised learning methods to digital pathology.

The objective of this prospective investigation was to compare the performance of OSNA with both standard hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) analysis and intensive histopathology in the detection of colon cancer lymph node metastases.
Methods: In total, 313 lymph nodes from 22 consecutive patients with stage I, II, and III colon cancer were assessed.
Background: The value of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) procedure in colon cancer patients remains a matter of debate. The objective of this prospective, multicenter trial was 3-fold: to determine the identification rate and accuracy of the SLN procedure in patients with resectable colon cancer; to evaluate the learning curve of the SLN procedure; and to assess the extent of upstaging due to the SLN procedure.
Methods: One hundred seventy-four consecutive colon cancer patients were enrolled onto this prospective trial.
Objective: The few long-term follow-up data for sentinel lymph node (SLN) negative breast cancer patients demonstrate a 5-year disease-free survival of 96-98%. It remains to be elucidated whether the more accurate SLN staging defines a more selective node negative patient group and whether this is associated with better overall and disease-free survival compared with level I & II axillary lymph node dissection (ALND).
Methods: Three-hundred and fifty-five consecutive node negative patients with early stage breast cancer (pT1 and pT2< or =3 cm, pN0/pN(SN)0) were assessed from our prospective database.
Objective: To assess the accuracy of sentinel lymph node (SLN) frozen section in a prospective multicenter study of early-stage breast cancer patients.
Summary Background Data: The decision to perform an immediate completion axillary node dissection (ALND) is based on results of SLN frozen section. However, SLN frozen sections are not routinely performed in all centers.
Background: The sentinel lymph node (SLN) status has proven to accurately reflect the remaining axillary lymph nodes and represents the most important prognostic factor. It is unknown whether an association exists between the SLN status and the presence of bone marrow (BM) micrometastases. The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate whether or not such an association exists.

Controlled release of growth factors in the hydrogels may enhance the ability to engineer tissues. IGF-I and TGF-beta1 were loaded in PLGA microspheres using a double emulsion technique.

A novel treatment for end-stage liver disease using heterotopic hepatocyte transplantation on biodegradable polymers has been investigated. Survival and repopulation of adequate cell mass to replace hepatic function has been the principal difficulty of this method. Hence the authors have begun to investigate the role of donor and recipient age on the efficiency of hepatocyte transplantation.

Thyroid tissue samples from 17 NTG-patients were transplanted into athymic nude mice for a period of 4-5 weeks. Aliquots of lymphocyte preparations from both peripheral blood samples (PBL) and thyroid tissue (ITL) of 13 patients with GD and 12 patients with NTG were analyzed by flow-cytometry (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD56) and injected (i.

Aim of our studies was to examine the effect of high iodine ingestion or prophylactic thyroid hormone therapy on functional and morphological characteristics of this Hashimoto-like thyroiditis in cat. From birth to day 80 of life cats were treated with iodine (n = 9; 0.
