The estimated prevalence rate of adults living with HIV infection in MENA is one of the lowest in the world. To date, no data on the genetic characteristics of isolates from HIV/AIDS patients in Algeria were available. This study aimed to identify species and subtype families prevalent in Algerian HIV-infected patients and contribute to the molecular epidemiology mapping of in the MENA region.

The aim of our study was to determine the microbiological, epidemiological and molecular characteristics of VREfm isolated in north-central, eastern and western Algeria.
Methodology: a collection of 48 VREfm isolated from September 2010 to April 2017 in several Algerian hospitals were studied.
In Algeria, few data is available concerning the distribution of pneumococcal serotypes and respective antibiotic resistance for the current pre-vaccination period, which is a public health concern. We identified the most frequent Streptococcus pneumoniae serogroup/types implicated in invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD; n = 80) and carriage (n = 138) in Algerian children younger than 5 years old. Serogroup/types of 78 IPD isolates were identified by capsular typing using a sequential multiplex PCR.
