In patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD), the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) or creatinine clearance rate (Ccr) is always used as an index of decline in renal function. However, there are few animal models of DKD that could be used to evaluate renal function based on GFR or Ccr. For this reason, it is desirable to develop animal models to assess renal function, which could also be used for the evaluation of novel therapeutic agents for DKD.

We present three cases of hand-assisted laparoscopic nephrectomy (HALN) using a novel technique for treating advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with thrombi in the RV and IVC. .

Severe adhesions between the distal ureter and the surrounding tissues, including the iliac artery, were observed. Owing to difficulties in identifying the distal ureter, the proximal ureter was identified and dissected downward to free the ureter, thereby allowing anastomosis.

The patient was diagnosed as having bladder cancer (cT3bN1M0) and received two cycles of chemotherapy with gemcitabine and cisplatin. Radical cystectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection and bilateral ureterostomy was performed after achieving partial response in a lymph node metastasis following chemotherapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAnemia with inflammation-induced defective iron utilization is a pathological condition observed in patients suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD) or chronic inflammatory disease. There is no reasonable treatment for these conditions, because the effects of erythropoiesis stimulating agents (ESAs) or iron supplementation in the treatment of anemia are insufficient. JTZ-951 (enarodustat) has been characterized as a novel, orally bioavailable inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH), and has been developed as a novel therapeutic agent for anemia with CKD.
