Background: We have developed a new radiosensitization treatment called Kochi Oxydol-Radiation Therapy for Unresectable Carcinomas, Type II (KORTUC II). Using KORTUC II, we performed breast-conserving treatment (BCT) without any surgical procedure for elderly patients with breast cancer in stages I/II or patients refusing surgery. Since surgery was not performed, histological confirmation of the primary tumor region following KORTUC II treatment was not possible.

The decision to repeat transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is based on correct evaluation of response to therapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), a quantitative parameter of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), can predict early HCC recurrence after TACE. Results obtained using this method were compared with those using iodized-oil computed tomography (CT).

To assess whether cerebral arterial blood oxygen saturation (SaO2) can be calculated by EPI, we examined the relationship between peripheral SaO2 and T2+ signal intensity (SI) changes in the brain in three normal subjects, using 1.5 Tesla MRI. To decrease SaO2, hypoxia was induced by 100% helium-gas inhalation (60 sec).

Lymphatic transport of eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids given as trieicosapentaenoyl glycerol (TriEPA) and tridocosahexaenoyl glycerol (TriDHA) was compared with that of ethyl ester and free acid in rats cannulated with thoracic duct. Trioleoylglycerol (TO) served as a control. EPA and DHA, compared with oleic acid, were slowly transported in lymph irrespective of fat types administered.
