The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) at 1 year post-transplantation is a well-established predictor of long-term graft survival; however, its predictive accuracy needs improvement. We retrospectively analyzed data from 51 kidney transplant recipients at Kanazawa Medical University Hospital (January 2001-February 2015). Cox regression was used to identify risk factors for death-censored graft loss and create a nomogram to predict graft survival at 15 years post-transplantation.

The fly brain lands in Tokyo: A report on the 3rd Asia Pacific Drosophila Neurobiology Conference.

The third Asia Pacific Drosophila Neurobiology Conference (APDNC3) was held in the Wako Campus of RIKEN in Tokyo, Japan, from February 27th to March 1st, 2024. While APDNC2 was held in Taiwan in 2019, the global coronavirus pandemic enforced a long hiatus. Hence, APDNC3 was a much-anticipated meeting that attracted ~218 scientists from 18 different countries and regions, 154 from outside Japan.

Pattern Visually Evoked Potentials (pVEPs) and Retinal Nerve Fiber Thickness in a Japanese Girl With Anti-myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Seropositive Optic Neuritis.

We report our findings in a 5-year-old Japanese girl with unilateral optic neuritis who was seropositive for anti-myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody. Functional and microstructural changes were assessed longitudinally for 3.5 years by serial recordings of the pattern visual evoked potentials (pVEPs) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) during the acute and chronic phases.

Exploring unsolved cases of lissencephaly spectrum: integrating exome and genome sequencing for higher diagnostic yield.

Lissencephaly is a rare brain malformation characterized by abnormal neuronal migration during cortical development. In this study, we performed a comprehensive genetic analysis using next-generation sequencing in 12 unsolved Japanese lissencephaly patients, in whom PAFAH1B1, DCX, TUBA1A, and ARX variants were excluded using the Sanger method. Exome sequencing (ES) was conducted on these 12 patients, identifying pathogenic variants in CEP85L, DYNC1H1, LAMC3, and DCX in four patients.

Pleomorphic lung cancer is a very rare type of cancer and very few cases have been reported in the literature. We present a case of pleomorphic lung cancer in a patient with history of IgA nephropathy on hemodialysis.
