Chronic complete spinal cord injury (SCI) is difficult to treat because of scar formation and cavitary lesions. While human iPS cell-derived neural stem/progenitor cell (hNS/PC) therapy shows promise, its efficacy is limited without the structural support needed to address cavitary lesions. Our study investigated a combined approach involving surgical scar resection, decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) hydrogel as a scaffold, and hNS/PC transplantation.

MCFD2 and ERGIC-53 form a cargo receptor complex that plays a crucial role in transporting specific glycoproteins, including blood coagulation factor VIII, from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus. We have demonstrated that MCFD2 recognizes a 10-amino-acid sequence in factor VIII, thereby facilitating its efficient transport. Moreover, the secretion of biopharmaceutical recombinant glycoproteins, such as erythropoietin, can be enhanced by tagging them with this sequence, which we have termed the "passport sequence" (PS).

Background/objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and long-term outcomes of S-1-based neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) in patients with resectable or borderline-resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with PDAC who underwent S-1-based NACRT at our institute between 2010 and 2017.

Results: Forty patients were included in the study, including 15 (37.

How the fate (folding versus degradation) of glycoproteins is determined in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an intriguing question. Monoglucosylated glycoproteins are recognized by lectin chaperones to facilitate their folding, whereas glycoproteins exposing well-trimmed mannoses are subjected to glycoprotein ER-associated degradation (gpERAD); we have elucidated how mannoses are sequentially trimmed by EDEM family members (George et al., 2020; 2021 eLife).

Background: Despite recent medical advancements, surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma is associated with high complication and mortality rates. This may be partly attributed to the absence of established preoperative liver evaluation criteria for safe surgery. This study aimed to propose a reliable indicator for safe and well-planned management of major hepatectomy with extrahepatic bile duct resection.
