Celebrating the Mental Health of Indigenous Two Spirit and Gender Diverse Youth and Adolescents in the United States.

Indigenous Two Spirit (2S) and gender diverse (GD) youth in the United States are a population distinct for their resilience and joy, despite the legacy of settler colonialism and present-day manifestations of historical traumas. The process of settler colonialism in North America instigated a transition from celebration of 2SGD identities to violence and discrimination, often associated with homophobia and transphobia. As a result of these processes, Indigenous 2SGD individuals disproportionately experience poor health outcomes compared to non-Indigenous GD individuals.

How Should Clinicians Navigate Decision Making About Genital Reconstructive Surgeries Among Intersex and Transgender Populations?

Genital reconstructive surgeries (GRS) are available for a variety of indications and populations, including transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals and those with intersex traits/differences in sex development (I/dsd). Despite the common outcomes of GRS for TGD and I/dsd individuals, decision making about this surgical care differs between these populations and across the lifespan. Sociocultural perspectives on sexuality and gender dominate the ethics of GRS, and reform is needed within clinical ethics to center the autonomy of TGD and I/dsd individuals in informed consent processes.

Creating a path forward: understanding the context of sexual health and sexually transmitted infections in American Indian/Alaska Native populations – a review.

This review assessed sexual health and sexually transmitted infection (STI) burden among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) peoples within the context of current clinical and public health services. We conducted a review of published literature about sexual health and bacterial STIs among AI/AN populations in the United States using Medline (OVID), CINAHL (EbscoHost) and Scopus. Peer-reviewed journals published during 1 January 2005-2 December 2021 were included and supplemented by other publicly available literature.
