Numerous factors contribute to high fertility within a specific context some of which are related to women's fertility practices. What has been less frequently examined, however, is how men's preferences and behaviours contribute to high fertility rates. This is imperative in a country such as Sudan which has reported continuously high fertility rates.

In Sudan, the HIV testing rates during pregnancy remain low. Limitations in scaling and uptake of PMTCT services are linked to several factors within the healthcare system, including the motivation of healthcare providers. This article describes how a health facility-based health promotion intervention plan was developed, implemented, and evaluated to increase the uptake of PMTCT services using the Intervention Mapping approach.
