In horses, prostaglandin E (PGE) is produced by embryos around Day 5 post-ovulation; PGE functions directly at the oviduct promoting embryo transport into the uterus. Non-surgical collection of horse embryos for cryopreservation is recommended at Day 6.5-7 post-ovulation.

Effects of experimentally generated bull antisperm antibodies on in vitro fertilization.

To test the hypothesis that bull antisperm antibodies have the capacity to interfere with fertilization, antisperm antibodies were generated in three 13-mo-old Holstein bulls by auto-immunizing each bull with sperm three times. All bulls produced serum antisperm IgG1 and IgG2 antibodies. No serum antisperm IgA nor seminal plasma antisperm antibodies of any isotype could be detected by ELISA.

Objective: To determine the benefits that were associated with pregnancy testing by use of transrectal palpation during the period 30 to 65 days after unsuccessful insemination of dairy cows.

Design: Nonconcurrent, cohort study.

Animals: Cows in 15 dairy herds in the United States and Canada.
