At the center of the hippocampal tri-synaptic loop are synapses formed between mossy fiber (MF) terminals from granule cells in the dentate gyrus (DG) and proximal dendrites of CA3 pyramidal neurons. However, the molecular mechanism regulating the development and function of these synapses is poorly understood. Sex hormones are well known to modulate circadian timekeeping as well as the behavioral and physiological responses to circadian disruption. Gonadectomy, reducing the amount of circulating gonadal hormones, in males and females produces alterations to the free-running rhythm and the responses to light exposure by the central oscillator of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). The Indian leafwing butterfly (Horsfield, 1829) (Nymphalidae) is an Asian forest-dwelling, leaf-mimic. Genome skimming by Illumina sequencing permitted assembly of a complete circular mitogenome of 15,200 bp from consisting of 79.5% AT nucleotides, 22 tRNAs, 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNAs and a control region in the typical butterfly gene order.
