Individualized radical hysterectomy procedure using intraoperative electrical stimulation for patients with cervical cancer.

Objective: In this study, by monitoring the varied distributions of nerve fascicles using intraoperative electrical stimulation (IES), we sought to establish an individualized operation based on the patient's unique nerve distribution pattern, and to determine whether this technique would result in a higher preservation rate.

Materials/methods: Radical hysterectomy was performed from 2002 to 2010. Patients in group A are the 48 cases from 2002 to 2007 in which nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy using IES as our previous report was performed.

Expression of FKBP12 and ryanodine receptors (RyRs) in the spinal cord of MND patients.

We investigated the FKBP12 and ryanodine receptor (RyR) immunoreactivity (IR) in the spinal cords of neurological controls and patients with motor neuron disease (MND). In the neurological controls, the cytoplasm of the spinal anterior horn neurons was stained with anti-FKBP12 antibodies and anti-RyR (type 1 and type 2) antibodies. In the MND cases, the residual neurons in the anterior horn of the spinal cord showed IR for RyR (type 1 and 2) antibodies, while weak IR for anti-FKBP12 antibodies was comparable to that of controls.

FKBP12 immunoreactivity in the human spinal cord of motor neuron disease patients.

We investigated the FKBP12 immunoreactivity in the spinal cord of neurological controls and motor neuron disease (MND) patients. In the neurological controls, the spinal neurons were markedly stained with antihuman FKBP12 (N-19 and C-19) antibodies. FKBP12 immunoreactivity was associated with lipofuscin in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples.

Circadian blood pressure in patients in a persistent vegetative state.

We examined circadian variations in blood pressure, pulse rate, and other physiological variables, including hormone levels, in 16 patients in a persistent vegetative state (mean age -/+ SE; 66.1 -+/ 3.9 yr).
