Athyrium yokoscense is hypertolerant to cadmium (Cd) and can grow normally under a high Cd concentration despite Cd being a highly toxic heavy metal. To mitigate Cd stress in general plant species, Cd is promptly chelated with a thiol compound and is isolated into vacuoles. Generated active oxygen species (ROS) in the cytoplasm are removed by reduced glutathione.

[A case of 8-cm metastatic lymph node rupture from early gastric cancer with low papillary structure].

A 79-year-old man experiencing sudden abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and computed tomography images revealed an 8-cm lesion, suggestive of submucosal tumor in the gastric antrum and a type 0-IIc early gastric cancer in the gastric body. The tumor ruptured during preoperative examinations, which necessitated emergency D1+ distal gastrectomy.

[Case of protein plug in the pancreatic duct mimicking pancreatic cancer concomitant with branch-type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm].

A 65-year-old male was referred to our hospital 2 years ago for a multilocular cyst accompanied with a protein plug in the pancreas tail. He was diagnosed as having branch duct-type intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm and was followed-up. Two years later, endoscopic ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic lesion, 10mm in diameter, near the cyst-like lesion.
