Background: The frequency of EoE has been increasing in Northern Hemisphere cohorts, yet there is a scarcity of data in our region. Regional climatic factors, and lifestyle habits may influence the presentation of EoE, and appropriate management is crucial to prevent complications. WIth this is mind we undertook the first comprehensive multisite study of EoE in Australasian children.

Objective: Uncontrolled pain remains a major clinical challenge in the management of knee osteoarthritis (OA), the most common disabling joint disease. Worse pain is associated with synovial innate immune cell infiltration (synovitis), but the role of innate immune-regulatory cells in pain is unknown. Our objective was to identify synovial innate immune cell subsets and pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with worse pain in patients with knee OA.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to examine changes in knee joint health before and one year after high tibial osteotomy (HTO) surgery, specifically looking at synovial fluid biomarkers and MRI results for knee effusion-synovitis and cartilage health.
  • - Results showed a decrease in inflammation markers related to Toll-like receptor and TNF-α signaling, with significant decreases in effusion-synovitis volume and specific biomarkers such as IL-6 and IL-1β linked to knee joint improvement over the year.
  • - Additionally, the articular cartilage's composition, measured by T2 relaxation time, also improved after HTO surgery, with correlations found between this improvement and changes in several key growth factors and cytokines in the syn

Objective: To identify the presence and distribution of histopathological features of synovial inflammation and tissue damage, and to test their associations with ultrasound (US) imaging measures of synovitis and patient-reported measures of pain in knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Design: In the cross-sectional study of 122 patients undergoing surgery for painful late-stage (Kellgren-Lawrence Grade 3 or 4) knee OA, we compared US measures of synovitis (n = 118) and pain (Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) to histopathological measures of inflammation vs. synovial tissue damage in synovial tissue biopsies.
