Constitutively active mutants of BRAF cause cardio-facio-cutaneous (CFC) syndrome, characterized by growth and developmental defects, cardiac malformations, facial features, cutaneous manifestations, and mental retardation. An animal model of human CFC syndrome, the systemic BrafQ241R/+ mutant mouse, has been reported to exhibit multiple CFC syndrome-like phenotypes. In this study, we analyzed the effects of Braf mutations on neural function, separately from their effects on developmental processes.

Flooding causes severe yield losses worldwide, making it urgent to enhance crop tolerance to this stress. Since natural flooding often involves physical flow, we hypothesized that the effects of submergence on plants could change when combined with physical flow. In this study, we analyzed the growth and transcriptome of exposed to submergence or flooding with physical flow.

Background/aim: The incidence of biliary tract cancers (BTC), including cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer, has been increasing worldwide. Approximately 70% of BTC patients have advanced disease at diagnosis, leading to a poor survival rate. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated that the addition of immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as durvalumab or pembrolizumab, to gemcitabine plus cisplatin chemotherapy significantly improves survival rates, making triple therapy the current standard for first-line treatment of BTC.

Article Synopsis
  • Tumor intrinsic β-catenin signaling influences the immune microenvironment, potentially leading to resistance against immune checkpoint inhibitors in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • In a study of 50 NSCLC patients treated with anti-PD-1 therapy, those with positive β-catenin expression (20%) exhibited worse survival outcomes and lower immune cell infiltration compared to those with negative expression.
  • The findings suggest that β-catenin expression is linked to poor prognosis in NSCLC, as it correlates with reduced immune cell markers and may impact gene expression related to immune response.
